Importing A Lexus!

Recommended Posts

I had a look around the Lexus US site this morning and saw the differences between the model line-up...and the prices. A top-spec IS250 AWD coming out at $42k (with all the options).

1) I was just wondering what the costs are associated with importing a vehicle (besides the obvious shipping), e.g. DVLA, Customs and Excise etc.

2) I'm a dual UK/US citizen with a permanent address in both countries, would that help/hinder me?

3) Would the manufacturers' warranty still be valid in the UK?

4) I know some insurance companies ask if your car is LHD, but does it make a difference to price?

Any info would be much appreciated!

As far as I am aware the manufacturer's warranty would not be valid as it will not have been purchased inside the EU. LHD can increase premiums slightly and of course you would have to pay 17.5% VAT - is it worth it?

1. shipping, duty, and vat on top

would also need to go through esva and a model report would be needed

2. dont know,

3. no

4. yes that and the fact it will be an import will increase premiums

it wouldnt be the easiest car to sell on either

Insurance wise you are looking at increase of at least 15% for it being a lhd
