That's a 6-1/2" x 13" import size plate......only officially legal on Jap imports

it has nothing to do with the size of plate

it is to do with the size of digits and the spacing of them

dvla site gives you the digit sizes and spacing requirements

obviously the less digits your reg has the easier it is to get smaller plates

jap imports/imports are allowed a smaller sized digit (motorcycle size)

My front plate is motorcycle size. Digits are correct size.

Never thought about the dvla website

my old car had a (rear, leagal) motor cycle sized plate (smaller than legal car plate) on the front with letters that were between the size of legal bike and legal car size, I never had any problems. No one mentioned it, I kept the letters to the same font and filled the plate as much as possible with them.
