I was watching somthing on youtube (just typed in Lexus for a giggle) and I think I found out what Lexus means.

Someone might know and please correct me if I'm wrong but:-

Luxury EXports to the US, hence, LEXUS.

Also found out what BMW means.

Bavarian Motor Works.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how much of a geek does this make me?

LEXUS = Luxury EXport US (as mentioned on UCR last week!)

BMW = Bayerische Motoren Werke

Also, another interesting but useless fact - contrary to popular belief, AUDI is not an abbreviation but is actually latin for "hark" (or Horch in German which is the surname of the company's founder). I think Volvo is latin too

jsj24uk - score 1-10 being a geek = 5 as you got the BMW incorrect.

Fmrl - score 1-10 being a geek = 10!!!!

It's a good job I didn't mention that I know what SAAB stands for then!

Also, did you know that Toyota should actually be Toyoda (named after the founder of the company) but the Japanese consider Toyota to be more lucky.

I thought Lexus stood for Luxury EXecutive US ?

Don't think so, I'm pretty sure it was "exports" too.......... :whistling:

I was gutted when I first found this out, it's such a cool name, couldn't believe the Japs came up with it, but then came the lame explanation! :shutit:

I was also wondering does Ford really mean:-

Fix Or Repair Daily,

Fails On Race Days,

Found On Road Dead,

Apparently it is somthing to do with a bloke called Henry. (If you need me for a pub quiz or phone a friend, then just ask.)

That is the only three I was aware of. I tried to think of one for Vauxhall but I can't.
