Sounds like the pads have got very hot at some point and now have a hard outer-layer at the point where they meet the disc, mine does this a fair bit

Don't know a cure other than replacing a perfectly good set of pads, don't know if you can re-key the pad's surface silghtly or wether this will damage the pad

hopefully it is that, in time will the noise stop, like when the top layer or pads rubs off and is it visabilly obvious like could i tell by looking at them?

i soo hope that is it would be a weight off my mind, just scares me everytime i brake thinking ehat if next time i dont stop!

I'd have thought it would evenually stop due to usage (but I don't use mine everyday, only few times a month, being an auto the noise is worse untill the pads warm up - usually within a few miles), not sure of the time required

Can't remember if there was any visiable tale-tail marks, been awhile but the pads do feel very very smooth and very hard (tap a small spanner on the pad and I got a solid sound), only the front pads did this, the rears where OK

I changed my front pads and the noise went so I knew this was the cause, now have a spare set for when they do evenually go

Hope this helps and puts your mind at ease
