My respected tyre dealer (who does geometry as well) Cambridge Performance Tyres, was trying to find some Dunlops for me but suggested I try Kumho KH11 as an excellent and under rated alternative.

I have done a bit of a search and there seems to be some good feeling from users in the States.

Some of the guys in the other forums appear to have tried them.

Do any of you have them at all?

I expect to get the 'Only use Dunlops' responses so perhaps could I get some other opinions?

Price around £60 each!

I am not a cheapskate but if this is an upcoming make at a reasonable price, is it worth a try?

Hi,

My previous car, a mk 3, was fitted with these when I got it and even though they were down to about 4mm I was happy with the grip they gave. I didn't think they gave too much noise either, I suppose this is down to the individual. The car had 17" x 8" wheels fitted and tyre size was size was 225/55/17.

The new owner has had them replaced with Federal tyres,( he paid £63 each fitted and balanced) and whilst he tells me the grip is really good, they make a terrible noise. He was quoted £84 fitted for Khumo and wishes he had spent the extra. :whistling:

Hi

Having just thrown away two virtually new tyres and spent £130 each on two Dunlops I feel able to offer some advice...

My car, the 430 was the quietist car in the world when new, Lexus spent many thousands to create this and did it with the help of Dunlop

The 400 is also a very quiet car, the cheap tyres I had, Maxxis, are good tyres I have had them on other cars and found them to offer good grip and decent life, I imagine they are similar to the Kumho's, the price is similar...

All I will say is that the £260 was well worth it for the reduction in road noise, especially at low to moderate speeds, the car is now whisper quiet and all you can hear is the leather creak, under my not inconsiderable weight, on corners.

I suppose it depends on your wants... I have the radio very low or off and just like the serenity, if on the other hand you have the radio up loud or are not fussed by the noise then go with the cheaper ones.

I will say the Dunlops are more supple over pot holes, the turn in is also crisper, but then I suppose they should be at twice the price....

One last thing is that tyre shops never offer advice on quiet tyres, the one I used thought I was mad to chuck out two nearly new tyres just for noise, well for my money it was worth it I cannot say enough how much difference it made.

Good luck with the decision....

Pete

hiya ive just had 5 new ones fitted and i`am very pleased indeed with them overall and strangely they seem to run very very much quieter than the pirelli`s that where fitted before , but the best bit was that by chooseing the kumho`s they were less than half the price of the pirelli`s .

rick.

p.s ive also used kuhmo`s on a couple of rangwerovers as well in the past and allways found them to be a first class tyre.

Just been trawling the wibbly-web and see that the Falken ZE 512 (225 60 W16) is rated as having "extremely low noise characteristics", as well as setting "new standards for friction, aquaplaning and handling in wet conditions". They are also described as "the perfect partner for owners of intermediate to high powered limousines..."

£74 fitted. Sounds too good to be true!

Has anyone bought them?
