Nissan Developing Colour Changing Paint

Recommended Posts

magnetochromic pigments and paints are being reserched more extensively at present. The use of thermochromics, photochromics and electrochromics have been widely utilised and now attention seems to be shifting towards the ability of diamagnetic/paramagnetic species to alter their characteristics in/on objects of everyday use.

Quite an interesting application to put it on a car if you ask me....

This will also be a challenge for the V5, will you put black at 15 degrees, red above?

its not related to temperature in this case, but magnetic orientation of the substituent molecules. A change in current can enable paramagnetic-diamagnetic transitions and thus a colour change will result.

the best bit i like about it is the fact anyone who touches the car will get a small shock.

i'd try and make it a big shock!

:offtopic: Someone I used to know, many years ago, had a car with a metal door handle and wired it up to the Battery, and somehow (no idea how) rigged it to give any scallywag-types a bit of a jolt!!!

the military have been trialing this for a while now, to camouflage tanks, its still very much in the development zone

isn't there some advancement with 'invisible' armour defence. i.e where the image behind an object (e.g a tank) is projected in front of it making it appear invisible??

basically yes,.........but its projected onto special coatings on the vehicle, so whatever is in front of the vehicle is projected onto the rear of the vehicle

yea, thats the one. Tis a clever use of evolving technology........
