At the touch of a button...

The technology works by running a current through a special polymer applied to the vehicle before painting. This polymer contains particles of 'paramagnetic' iron oxide.

magnetochromic pigments and paints are being reserched more extensively at present. The use of thermochromics, photochromics and electrochromics have been widely utilised and now attention seems to be shifting towards the ability of diamagnetic/paramagnetic species to alter their characteristics in/on objects of everyday use.

Quite an interesting application to put it on a car if you ask me....

its not related to temperature in this case, but magnetic orientation of the substituent molecules. A change in current can enable paramagnetic-diamagnetic transitions and thus a colour change will result.

I saw an example of the heat reactive paint a couple of years ago at Autosport International at the NEC - quite impressive may I add. The car was covered in hand prints were people had energised the particles in the cars paint through touching it

thermochromics are old hat, relatively speaking. Pretty impressive when on a car, but you wil ALWAYS have areas that don't change as much as others (there seems to be cold spots on cars)

Someone I used to know, many years ago, had a car with a metal door handle and wired it up to the Battery, and somehow (no idea how) rigged it to give any scallywag-types a bit of a jolt!!!

isn't there some advancement with 'invisible' armour defence. i.e where the image behind an object (e.g a tank) is projected in front of it making it appear invisible??

basically yes,.........but its projected onto special coatings on the vehicle, so whatever is in front of the vehicle is projected onto the rear of the vehicle
