Ls 430 Air Conditioning (2001)

Recommended Posts

The heating on my LS430 , is behaving differently to my previous GS300, on the motorway after an hour of driving the center vents give out very cold air, I have to close them to stop frostbite setting in.

Also when it is cold outside (below 5 dec C) it blows hot air into both driver and passenger foot wells, it seems to happen after you accelerate etc when the engine develops heat, its only for a few minutes but it makes you turn the temp down, then 10 minutes later you have to turn it up again.

Is this normal?

95% of the time it works OK. I usually just set it to 22 deg C , all in auto and never have to touch it.

Hi

Does seem to be acting a bit strange, mine doesn't behave like that and I leave mine in auto most of the time, but at about 19-20 deg, think I'd get it checked if I were you.

I do not have the temp control set to dual, so both sides are the same. I drove for 4 hours to day with no problems, I also carried out a system check, with no fault codes present.

Below is some text from the Lexus repair manual I have.

An automatic air conditioner system which provides enhanced air conditioner comfort according to the occupants' senses has been newly adopted.

In the previous automatic air conditioner system, the Ecu determined the required outlet air temperature and blower air volume in accordance with the calculation formula that has been obtained based on infor- mation received from the sensors.

However, because the senses of a person are rather complex, a given temperature is sensed differently, depending on the environment in which the person is situated. For example, a given amount of solar radiation can feel comfortably warm in a cold climate, or extremely uncomfortable in a hot climate. Therefore, as a technique for effecting a higher level of control, a neural network* has been adopted in the automatic air conditioner system. with this technique, the data that has been fetched under varying environmental conditions is stored in the Ecu, which effects control to provide enhanced air conditioner comfort.

*: Neural Network =Is capable of effecting complex control by artificially simulating the information processing method of the nervous system of living organisms in order to establish a complex input/output relationship that is similar to a human brain. An intelligent swing register, which controls the orientation and the angle of the front center register, has been newly adopted for improved comfort.

maybe it is to clever for its own good?...lol
