Revs Stuck At 5000 When Cols

hi

when i start my car on a cold morning the revs shoot straight up too 5000 and wont move( the car isnt is still quite so its not actualy revving at 5000 its just stuck there) then when the car warms up they drop back down to normal.

any ideas what it might be anyone?

p.s this is my first post, pictures too come very soon

sorry mate i didn't explain very well.

if i sat and reved the car to 5000rpm you would hear the engine, but the engine isn't actually reving at 5000 the needle is just stuck there when the car is cold then when the car warms up the revs drop to normal

hope this makes sense.

So its just the needle in the dash ? sounds like a sensor or the needle in the dash may be catching something, but if only when cold, it might not be that, never herd of it mate.
