Damp In The Boot /ac Not Connected

Recommended Posts

I've noticed that the boot gets a bit damp.

Whilst checking the seals I noticed the right hand side of the boot does not fit as well as the left.

There doesn't appear to be any adjustment.

My question is would I be best advised to tale it to a body repair specialist or a Lexus dealer.

Be interested in what you think

Second question as my LS430 has A/c in the back need I got to a specialist for a recharge or can I leave this to my local otherwise competent garage

Hi,

My boot had damp in it...nothing found wrong with the seal or anything else. I just suppled up the seal with vasaline and put one of those moisture absorber things in the boot (bought from Woolworths!) and have had no damp since.

As for the A/C system....being a split front/rear system it requires no specialist charging procedure so most places can do it....but you got to ask yourself where the original charge has gone. You dont want to pay for a "re-charge" and have the same problem in a few months! I`ve wrote loads of stuff on a/c here, have a search for my rantings!

Any help, you are welcome to contact me.

look for an automotive aircon specialist, he will check for leaks before he recharges the system and if there is a leak then he can advise you. If there is a leak from the back, dont mess around just have it capped off, you wont notice it and it would probably cost a small fortune to fix.

The front and rear aircon feed from the same supply, basically all the back is is a small rad with a blower on it, and unless you get driven everywhere you are not going to notice if this isnt working, I know because I had mine capped when the aircon guy said that the replacement pipes were 750 quid from Lexus!

maybe a stupid question but can't aircon pipes be made up just like brake pipes?

Yes, I`ve done a few in the past. As long as you use soft-roll "refrigeration quality" copper (easy to bend/route) and are very careful with the use of silver solder if the pipework has to be joined to components. I`ve also used flare joints and lockring connections on cars and have not been called back....yet!

so would an 'aircon' specialist not do this? - its gotta be a damn site cheaper than £750

Being a refrigeration and air conditioning engineer is the reason I have done this....There is no way I would pay £750 for a bit of pipe unless there was really no other way, and if someone else was paying!
