What Testing Is Required

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

can anyone tell me what sort of testing is required on a car after its bought back from an insurance company to be 'self-repaired' and eventually put back on the road??

I ask as my grandad had a rear end shunt a little while back and has since bought the car back and had the rear end repaired etc and its ready to go now so need to make sure all the legalities are in place.

is it just a case of a new MOT?? or does it need something like an SVA test??

cheers

rob

hmm, just found a link on the DVLA site saying a VIC (vehicle identity check) might be what is needed?? But the nearest station is 40 miles from where my grandad lives!! shocking!!!

can anyone confirm if this is all that's required??

cat c needs vic check, cat d doesn't, car needs mot of course and you can use current one if still valid, vic check place is 2 mins from my house and very easy, takes about 5 mins and costs £38, they just check it is not a ringer etc. I've done it 4 cars in last six months.

You may want to check with your insurers as some will require a full motor engineers report to confirm the vehicle is back in road worthy condition. I had a alot of clients who bought back Cat C and D salvage and I always said it was best to get it checked over properly.
