Lexus Gs300

Hi all, I would like some advice please on towing, I have decided to get rid of my second motor , which is a astra van and trailer and all my camping gear and invest in a caravan.

So the question is before I have tow bar fitted is-

a, what are Lexus like for towing as I have never seen one with a towbar?

b, I guess looking on eBay for a towbar will be like rocking horse s--t

That shouldn't matter - there should be loads of places that can fit generic towbars in your local yellow pages. It's not a difficult job and shouldn't be too expensive either.

Getting a good towbar is not a problem as there are excellent suppliers out there. If your GS300 is an autobox then check whether an auxilliary oil cooler would be beneficial. A GS300 should be a good towcar if it has been looked after but, like all towcars, it will only tow well if you have loaded your car correctly and also your caravan.

Thanks yes it as been looked after i am 3rd owner and 2nd owner was a very good friend, the 1st owner not sure but he only had it for 3 years it as only it done 140,000 it is a mk 2 1988 with full service history yes it is auto but sure about the oil cooler you mentioned,(how would I know if it had)

Check with Lexus whether it is needed. Some automatics need (or are mechanically safer) if an auxilliary oil cooler for the gearbox is fitted when towing. This is for the autobox not the engine and helps prevent the box overheating.
