Fuel Gauge

Anyone had this problem please? Any simple fix?

Filled up last week, started engine and fuel gauge took a while to come to life then suddenly shot up to correct level. Today filled up and the needle does not move past the empty notch, however it does move as it drops to idle when the engine is off. I just filled up with half a tank (i hope!) and it only moves to the bottom of all the notches and the empty light is still on.

Must be something to do with sensor I tank is my guess?

Could be the sender which is usually on the outside of the tank. Not sure if there is a test for it, sure someone more knowledgable will pop along and help out.

Fairly common on the IS200, just fill up and drive around for a while and the gauge will sort it's self out! If you are really worried zero the trip when you put fuel in and work off about 25 miles to the gallon (4.5 litres) and you will be OK :D

Mine does this too. I think it has something to do with how often the fuel sender signal is processed by the ECU.

Nothing to worry about.

It started working again on it's own. I think I ran it well into the orange warning light, won't be doing that again. Thanks for replies.
