I am getting close to having to replace the 4 tyres on my 2002 '02' IS200 SE. I am not heavy with the right foot. My next door neighbour has a 2.0 Civic Type-S with Michelin Primacy 17's. He swaps the front to the back every 5000 miles. He is now at 30,000 miles and they still look good. Where-as my missus has a set of Falken's on her Mini and they look poor at 11,000 miles.

So, Who has got the most miles out of a set of tyres on their IS200? Is there a compromise with mileage and comfort or grip?

Ive had falkens on my Is200 before, they were very cheap - never again tho. they lasted for approx 9,000 and they were beyond legal after that. Ive had Dunlop sports on for 22,000

That's astonishingly low, Where they 452's because they have a good name.

Michelin are a good allrounder and do last well. My last set lasted 30k and only had to change them as they started to de-laminate through age.

They say that they do still offer rim protection, but by the make up of the tyre rather than a visible rim strip.

I just put a set Dunlop SportMax TT on my Lex and these have great rim protection and grip well.

But I have to say that for grip you cant go wrong with Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta, great value and fantastic grip...but i have no idea how long they will last.

So far 18,000 on a set of Unitrac Focus 6000. They cam new on the car last August and at the service on 9th August they had 4mm on th front and 5mm on the back.

41k on the fronts and still going strong..... replaced the rears about 5k ago. Michelin Pilots..... Tracking settings as it left the factory

10k on a set of Federals and i am heavy footed and turn the traction control off,alot. the grip is ok i have to push to get it to slide. Stil have about 5mm on them.

Michelins i find crack up alot between the treads (many mot fails on them)

Recently had a customer in with goodyears (on a corsa) all 4 shot afetr 12k she said.

Driving conditions tyre pressure all has a lot to do with tyre wear. Cant rememeber where in the country it was but at last mot seminar they pointed out an area real heavy on tyres due to many roundabouts.With the new computerised mot system it records what cars fail on what items in what parts of the country. The tyre wear in one area really stood out was 25% higher inthis area than rest of country according to their records.
