Head Light Washers Not Working

Recommended Posts

Doing a few jobs ready for the old girls return to the road in a couple of weeks.

But...the headlamp washers that worked when i got the car 2+ years ago packed up about a years back.

With the ignition switched on, headlamps on (car is in the workshop so i can see the beam pattern on the wall) they dont work when i push the HL washer button. But its not far to say that nothing happens.

When i push the washer button i can hear a faint click and at the same time i can see the headlamp beam and the dash lights dim for about a second or two. It doesnt matter how long i hold the button down for it only clicks and dims for a second. So, im guessing that the fuse isnt blow and the button is working. There is no water on the floor so the pipe isnt leaking or detatched.

Any ideas?

Thought did strike me (though sounds a bit thick) is there a seperate washer bottle for the headlamp washers?

Hi, just the one bottle. Just an idea, have u checked the jets with a pin as they easily clog. Also everytime the bottle runs dry before I get chance to fill it the bonnet jets jam with the crud from the bottom of the bottle. Only way I've found to clear them is to blow them out with a airline from work

Just my thoughts

The washer bottle is under the n/s/f headlamp which isn't too bad to take out, otherwise you need to jack it up,crawl underneath, remove the splash trays to access it. Can you get someone to work the button with the lamp removed and you may be able to see/hear if anythings working. I replaced the main washer pump last Oct on mine and I do have a spare s/h pump.
