I have a LS400 1997 and unfortunately left it for a few months whilst we were away. The Battery is stone dead and the remote won't open the doors. Much to my surprise, the key wont open the door either and so I'm stuck. The key opens the boot, no probs, but not the doors. Tried many things including a new Battery in the remote and wd40 in the key slot, but struggling now. Ideally if I could open the bonnet I could re-charge the Battery and that would probably do it, but of course I cannot open the bonnet because I can't get to the bonnet release (in the car). Does anyone know how to open the bonnet release from the outside?

Thanks to all for your help

If you can get into the boot...take off the boot light cover and hook a freshly charged Battery to the light connections, then use the remote. It should work

Thanks to all - thought I'd reply to my own post and relate what happened. As we know, the key should still work even without power and I sprayed WD40 into the lock as I said. After some 4 hours of turning the key and sprsying, nothing changed, so I waited for replies to my posting. My wife came in at 5 o'clock that evening and I told her what had happened. She picked up the key, put it in the door lock and opened the door... I stood there with my mouth open whilst she muttered something about alzeimers and strolled away, leaving me dumbfounded. Apart from the obvious (witchcraft) I can only assume the WD40 needed time to work.. Women eh?

The tip about the boot light is a good one though and I've made a note in case the head of the coven is not available.
