Same thing happened to me few times, and lot of times it just skips on every bump on the road.

so i invested in this piece of kit.

Mounted next to T&Snow button. Does not skip on bumps, and it even memories the track that was plying b4 ignition of.

It plugs behind you cd player, and uses usb stick or SD card, players mp3 , all controls are done vie the cd player button.

now I can store up to 15 CD's on one USB stick and play randomly. ;)

what specs that car above??must be a poverty spec ie bottom of the range(is200s??)or a altezza.....a propper is200 doesnt have a cubby hole their it has heated seat buttons

error 3 means the unit is caput...you can get it repaired but it will do it again...the best bei is to go for an aftermarket head unit or a grom unit...which is whats above..

Was told i can disconnect the battery for a hr or so reconnect and it should reset it ?.

If it does anything at all it will be a fluke. Basically Err3 signifies that the changer mechanism has become jammed. The problem is that even if you successfully manage to take it apart and unjam it, it will still sit there flashing Err3 because the detected error has been stored in the EEPROM on the mainboard. Essentially the only way to cure it is know exactly how and where the error is stored and replace whatever chip with a known working one or have the ability to reflash the existing one. It's just unfeasible.

I had my one apart when it finally Err3d after 12 years and despite going through every part of the mechanism setting it right it would still keep flashing Err3. It even does this if you completely disconnect the changer sensors and drive motors so the error must be stored on the board somewhere. Even with my electronics experience I couldn't be bothered with the hassle so just went aftermarket.

Strange that, as i had the error3 and took mine apart, re-alined the mech put it all back together and works fine, thats over 2 years ago now?

And it never gave the error3 flashing or not afterwards.

This happened to mine. My local dealer (who I recommend without hesitation) told me it was a common problem, usually caused by a home-recorded cd jamming the mechanism. They told me it would be £1750 plus VAT plus fitting to replace but suggested I should look around for a specialist. I found one who offered to examine the unit but was not prepared to remove it so I went back to Lexus and was told it was a 30 minute job to remove it and would be around £50. I booked an appointment but in the meantime continued using the car, just using the radio and a "remote transmitter" from an MP3 player when Jeremy Vine starts to get on my nerves. Travelling back from London and prior to a roundabout on a dual carriageway part of the A303 just before the Exeter and Taunton roads separate, they have recently laid rumble strips that are both high and wide across both carriageways in order to bring speed down from 70 mph (which is about what I was doing) to a reasonable level to traverse the roundabout safely. The strips shook the car more violently than I have previously experienced and certainly slowed me down! About five miles further on, I stopped for petrol and when I turned the engine (and sound unit) back on a cd was spontaneously ejected from the player! I pressed the eject button five more times and all the remaining ones were ejected. On close examination, one of the cds had a slightly distorted edge and a number of marks that could have been caused by a jammed mechanism. I haven't quite had the courage to reload another 6 cds to see if it has fully fixed itself but before I do I will examine each one very closely and only use pre-recorded ones.

I hope this helps.

Hi Folk's,

I too got the err3 issue about 4 years ago on my is200 sport and the lexus dealership replacement quote was as above - around the £1700 mark ... so did a search on here and came across the GROM installation posting with the instructional pdf/doc? (not sure which)

total cost was about $75 for the GROM unit and about 2 hours installation because the manual on here was absolutely excellent - if i could follow it, then anybody could :)

now, even if my cd changer did work, I would'nt bother using it as I just leave the iPod in the car all the time now ... playlists are seen as a CD so will continue to play the entire playlist without needing input ... the only thing I would suggest to look out for though is if the iPod you have or intend to use with GROM installation is charged by the GROM unit - I have 2 iPods and only one is charged so I leave that one in the car all the time now ...

hope this helps :)
