Whistling Noise When Driven Over 20 Mph!

Recommended Posts

Hi, 2001 is200 se nav making a whistling noise when driven over 20mph, soon as i go below 20 mph it stops. Iv put new discs and pads on and checked nothing touching or rubbing the disc either. Also no difference in noise when i apply the brakes. Checked alternator belt and thats fine, really doing my head in. Noise sounds like its coming from the front drivers side, anybody had same problem???? Any help would be great

I have the exact same problem on my '01 IS200. It could possibly be one of two things.

Either a caliper is sticking, usually one of the front ones. Or it could be the handbrake shoes. On my car it's the front near side caliper that is sticking, you will only hear it when the car is at low speed.

Apparently the rear handbrake shows can wear and become a little lose with age, it's worse on a damp or cold morning. That might explain the noise and why you can't see nothing.

It may be neither but hopefully it'll set you in the right direction.
