Dreaded Rear Cam Cover Oil Leak - I Think

Recommended Posts

I think I may have an oil leak from the rear cam cover and need to know if it is an expensive fix as the car will have to go if it is!

I was going to get the cam belt done and the plugs changed but if the leak can't be cured at the same time I will be stuffed as I cannot afford an engine out job.

Any thoughts, fixes anyone know of?

If it is a cam cover leak, then I can't see it being an expensive fix. Just needs the throttle body removing to get to the cam cover.

If you mean the rear crank oil seal, that is a different matter. That is either engine out or gearbox off job. £50 for the seal, and variable amount for labour depending on garage. Lexus qouted be £980 plus vat (or something close to that), I ended up getting it done at an independent for £310 all in.

Yeah, there are some good deals around on the mk2's. Having made the switch from Mk1 GS300 Sport, to a Mk2 GS300 Sport, the mk2 is a much better car in lots of ways. Having said that, having now got a mk2 GS430 Sport, I would thoroughly recommend one of those. Not much in it on fuel consumption, and the power and performance of the 430 leaves the 300's feeling rather pedestrian.
