Hi guys,

My Lexus has been in for it's 60K service last week (£1500). The rear callipers were seized and had to be replaced. Rear pads were replaced and rear tyres were replaced too.

I have been driving around very gently since the service but today I kicked down from 1st through to 3rd gear (no burnout or wheel spin). The brief acceleration was in my own street. Within a minute of accelerating hard I was home and had parked my car. Upon leaving the car I could smell a very strong smell as if something was burning.

I've been doing some googling and am concerned if this indicates that the new caliper has seized too?

Any thoughts/comments will be highly appreciated.

If any brakes are rubbing because of a seized or partly seized caliper

the disc will heat up during normal driving as well.

Drive a couple of miles and then check for a very hot disc[ don't burn yourself! ]

they can get red hot!

Any disc hotter than the others is obviously suspect for caliper trouble

If you only had it serviced last week....take it back to the Lexus garage and request a check. Don't think twice about it.

If you think the brakes are binding.... chock the front wheels ( in front of and behind), jack up the rear and see if (handbrake off!!) you can spin the rear wheel freely. Is there a rubbing/grating sound? Is there resistance to your attempt to spin the wheel? Do it one side and then the other.

Thanks guys I am going to check the discs first for signs of overheating as I don't have a jack to lift both the rear tyres at once. I have spoken to the dealer and he's booked me in two weeks time.
