I'm Back And Aleady I Found A Problem! =(

Recommended Posts

Hi all!

I'm back on the Lexus scene!

bit about myself. I've stuck with Toyotas and Lexus since i passed round 11 years ago.

last Lexus i had was a IS200 Exec Auto and now 2 days ago i bought meself a GS 300 SE fully loaded with all the goodies and found that theres a dvd player unit in the boot! (not tried it as yet)

now for the problem.

the 12v power out in the center compartment dont work. im assuming its a fuse issue! i havent looked for the fuse box as yet! if you guys can give me a headsup on this for a quick fix i would be most greatful!

anyways loving the GS finally back in the Lexus ways again and this time... i think i will be sticking with Lexus for a long long time! (wishful thinking for a next upgrade in a year or two.... GS 450h)

Off the top of my head (I can check the diagrams later), the socket is probably powered from the "CIG" fuse, but if the ashtray socket is working that would rule that out.

The sockets do have a "fuse link" in the socket base, which can be bypassed by undoing the nut on the base and removing the insulation washer. Obviously the socket needs to be removed to get to the base of the socket.

It is just off the top of my head with the "CIG" fuse, so no guarantee. Pretty sure it wont have it's own fuse, so something else would not be working if a fuse has popped.

It would be the centre console socket base you would need to check for the fuse link. ie, once you have it out, there is a small nut on the bottom which clamps a sandwich of plates and washers together which form the positive feed contact in the bottom of the socket. If you have the console apart, it would make sense to check for 12v (with the ignition on) on the wire going to the base of the socket before going to the hassle if taking the nut off.

Checked the wiring diagrams and the power outlet is via the "CIG" fuse. So that counts that one out. So looks like dodgy wiring or dodgy socket (fuse link or socket itself).
