Ls430 Wireless Remote Not Working, But Smart Ok

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I just wondered if anyone has had this problem, as I can't seem to find anyone on the internet that has. A few days ago the wireless buttons stopped working on my 2000 LS430 (the Smart key). Luckily the Smart functions work fine, which I thought a bit odd. I have just tried the spare key & the buttons work fine. The Smart key has been dropped on many occasions and I think that perhaps it is damaged in some way, but I have seen other posts for older cars that suggest reprogaming it, and wondered if this is the answer. I also wondered if the kids could have done something wierd to it and messed it up. Any advise would be much appreciated. I have already replaced the Battery and the light does flash quickly when the buttons are pressed. I have also held down the lock & unlock button separately for 30 seconds, which was suggested in another post. Kind Regards Tina

Hi,

Not too familiar with the later LS430 programming but I would think it is the same as the last of the LS400s as yours is one of the 1st 430s.

There are various methods suggested and I will try to locate some for you.

LEXUS REMOTE PROGRAMMING LS430

Method 1:

1. Sit in the driver's seat and lock all the doors.

2. Unlock and open the driver's door.

3. Insert the key into the ignition and remove it (don't turn it...just

remove it).

4. Using the MANUAL lock switch on the driver's door, lock and unlock

the door 5 times.

5. Close the door.

6. Open the door.

7. Lock and unlock the driver's door 5 times (I'm almost certain you use

the MANUAL lock switch again, but if this sequence fails to work, try

again with the power switch). Insert the key into the ignition and turn

it to the "ON" position. Remove the key.

8. The driver's door will now lock and unlock itself one time.

9. Press and hold the "LOCK" button on the key fob for at least 1 second.

10. Close the driver's door.

11. Open the driver's door.

12. Press and hold the "LOCK" button on the key fob for at least one

second.

13. Close the driver's door.

14. Press and hold the "LOCK" button on the key fob. The door will lock.

15. Press and hold the "LOCK" button on the key fob again. The door will

unlock.

Method 2:

1. Driver door open and unlocked. Key out of the ignition

2. Insert the key and remove 2 times in 5 sec.

3. Close and open driver door 2 times in 40 sec.

4. Insert the key and remove it again from ignition.

5. Close and open driver door 2 times in 40 sec.

6. Insert the key in ignition,

7. Close the door,

8. Turn to on and back to lock in 1 second intervals. 1 time for add, 2

times for rewrite, 3 for confirmation 5 for prohibition. (yes, there is

no “4”)

9. Remove the key

10. Power lock will cycle to confirm

11. For add or rewrite mode within 40 sec of the confirmation,

A. press “lock” and “unlock” buttons of the FOB at the same time between

1 and 1.5 seconds.

B. within 3 sec press “Lock” button for more than 1 sec and release.

C. If it’s correct, the power door lock will cycle once. If it’s wrong

the door lock will cycle twice.

And ? Is it sorted now ?

You mentioned that smart operates. Can you start the engine when put 'failed' key into ignition (if you do this SMART is not used just transponder in key)..

Question to Steve2006 - what when key fails to program on step C in Method2 ? I tried several times with two bought smart keys and every time I have two lock on end :( I successfully programmed both keys to start the engine - by inserting key into ignition, but I cannot use wireless lock/unlock nor SMART.

Hi All just thought that I would update this post. The key just started working all by itself, which has been the case with a few problems we have had with this car, like the door mirror & a faulty engine sensor. The drivers side rear door is now playing up & will not close!

If your key is acting up it may just need a new Battery - they are a CR2032 and very inexpensive (£1.50) look on youtube for a video on how to do the job - it is very simple but you need to know what to do so you do not damage the case. The dealer will charge you a sillyammount for this. Also interferance can cause problems with the keys radio - my phone in my pocket will do it.

Good luck

That's not a lot of info, so I will start with the obvious answer. Have you tried rocking the steering wheel left and right while trying to turn the key?
