Condensation In My Rx400H Tail Light :(

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

The cold weather this week had made an issue apparent for me, this evening I saw a patch (size of my palm) of condensation inside of my RX400h tail light. I bought the card from a dealer in June. I am pretty sure that this is not supposed to happen? Is this a common issue? And is this expensive to fix? Should this be covered in my 1 year warranty from my dealer?

Many thanks for your advice in advance!

Cheers

Jake

If its a proper Lexus dealer warranty, then I would say yes...if it's not, still take it in and kick up a fuss, they will change it !!! Good luck.

Many thanks! I bought it as approved used from Lexus dealer so I would hope the warranty is a proper Lexus one. So I'm right to think that this is not supposed to happen to the tail light and it's not normal right?

For a 2009 car and a Lexus !!! I expect far better. Just be sure to take it to the dealer when it is at its worst state i.e early in the morning and not mid afternoon when some of the condensation may have dried out a bit. I have a 2003 RX300 and no sign of condensation whatsoever, so it's obviously faulty. Don't settle for anything less than a brand new replacement.

Thanks!! I called the dealer. The condensation disappeared in the morning. The guy said it's normal and when it doesn't go away even after a couple of dry days that's when I should start worrying :-/ Don't think even if I took it in at its worst state they'd fix it to be honest :(

You need to kick up a bit more of a fuss I think.

I have a 2001 IS and my lights never get condensation. I can't believe that's normal as the dealer says! The only time I've experienced this was last winter on my sisters 1989 ford escort! Lol...

I would argue that this is NOT normal, and I can't believe the dealer told you so! - For info, I had condensation in one of my headlights. Dealer investigated and found that the seal was at fault and replaced the headlight without discussion.

You definitely need to kick up a fuss and escalate to the dealership manager if need be.

Tom, are you sure? it's just that the two times I contacted my dealer for possible claims against the 1 year warranty (once for the corroded alloys, and once for the fogged up headlight), they referred the claim to Lexus UK for approval...

Hi, apologies if I may have misled you, my warranty is the five year old one which is run by an outside company, sounds like yours may be the real thing. Good luck though if you have to deal with Lexus uk direct though, quite simply the worst manufacturer to try and reason with I've ever experienced. It's a good job their dealers are better than they are.

Hi guys!Just a quick one!I had condensation on my right hand side front headlight and I asked dealer to replace the headlight, which he did...yeah but 6-7 days later condensation appeared again on the glass inside ...!!!I was so p...off!I rang dealer and he said to me exactly same what previous members posted in this topic that it happens because of weather and it is NORMAL!!!I could not believe what he said to me ,,,I said how come then my other side healdight which is 5 year old has no condensation whatsoever??I need to come back again to dealer, thing is I bought car over two hours away from home and I will be taking car either Lexus Chester or Liverpool..because it is closer to me ,but Sheffield Lexus (where I got the headlight fixed)they said they can fax the paperwork when the new part(1 year warranty) was fitted and they said apparently I can repair anywhere in the UK still under warranty..
