Oil Level Warning

I have started getting an intermittent "Warning! Oil Level Low" appearing on the display of my IS 220d (09 plate). When I check the dip-stick there is plenty of oil in there - quite a bit more than the maximum indicator on the dip-stick in fact. I have never put any oil in myself, and it has not been serviced for many months, so I can't imagine too much oil is the problem (unless it has been increasing for some other reason).

Does anyone have any ideas why this might be happening, and what I can do to stop it - apart from taking it to an expensive dealer ?

Hello and welcome to the LOC.

You checked the oil with the car on level ground, removed the dipstick, wiped it clean, reinserted it then pulled it out to check the level?

If the physical oil level is correct there could be a problem with the level sensor, any decent independant garage should be able to diagnose the fault certainly cheaper than Lexus prices.

The oil level sensor is fitted low down at the bottom of the engine on the passenger side, I hope it is a loose wire as they cost nearly £400.00 for a new one!
