Hi all I have noticed that the prices asked for good LS400's seem to be on the increase at the moment.

Just wondering what you all think?

My air con produces cold air but does rattle intermittently when switched on,and when it does this the engine becomes very slightly hesitant. I works quietly for 1-2 mins or so then is ok. Any thoughts?

Its not a major problem to me as I like the windows down and roof open in very hot weather anyway, probably a reminder of my motorcycling days, wind in your hair!!

None of the heated seats work either, again not something worth worrying about until its time to sell the car.

All the best

James

Its very difficult to know what prices are doing, up or down, as asking prices are very different from what the seller actually get.

Its possible to find out what eBay LS 400s sell for but its almost impossible to find out from Autotrader or Pistonheads and you would need their figures plus others for a decent analysis of the trend up, down or stable.

Good cars with an honest history and an honest seller will always get better money than the rest so its difficult to compare like with like.

I believe the prices are increasing because apart from rarity other owners like me are refurbing their cars to a high standard thereby making them useable for even more years

Prices? I think its a case of there is only so many ls 400s available, once you have had one you want another. They were quite a rare car to start with some have gone to Africa as they have cottoned on how good they are ( over their beloved s call mercs) the banger racing boys love them ( so there goes more) some are crashed or broken & scraped so good ones are harder to find. Look at merc 560 sec's 5 years ago you could buy a mint low miles one for £2k now you are looking at £10k.

LS 400s will become a classic car They were really the last normalish car that there was no budget set for development VW pheaton aside. Mint examples will go up in value as more & more people discover how good they are. The rarer they get the higher the value. Supply & demand. I really didn't expect the deluge of calls & interest I had in my old one, All be it was cheap at £2k with the gas conversion.

I am really going to pamper mine & am not put off by investing in it as I think it will go up in value in a couple of years rather than down. The market has already bottomed on these cars, So logic says they can only go up. IMHO that is :hocus-pokus:

Thanks for the very interesting replies to my post earlier today. I'll check the cabin filter if the weather ever gets above freezing!!

I will have the compressor looked at,having done a quick check online they are over 500 quid new,so may look into a used one or reconditioned if that is possible. Anyone know of an LS400 specialist in the Reading area?

I did a fuse check a while back for the seat heaters all seemed ok,worth doing again.

The main disappointment on my LS is the poorly applied black paint on the lower bodywork which should of course be grey/gunmetal.And a low quality resprayed section above the rear offside wheel arch.

When I bought it the guy said it was a "rare" fully black car!

All part of the learning process with these cars.
