Handbrake For Lexus Rx300?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone.

This is my second thread on the Lexus forums.

How do I put my car into handbrake? I'm used to the classic manual handbrake lever, but my car only has footbrake. Is it not possible to put the car into handbrake asides from P mode?

Thanks.

It is extremely worrying that you have bought a car and not familiarised yourself with it before driving off for the first time. Indeed how did you disengage the parking brake to set off in the first place? NB if you do not know the "handbrake" is actually a parking brake and can be operated by a hand lever or with a foot pedal.

The Handbook will tell you but to assist you, the left most pedal applies the parking brake on Series 2 and I assume that it is the same on Series 1 cars. This is a very common configuration.

You leave the gear selector in 'P' when you park the car.

Troll also comes to mind with such a basic query.

Troll? Really? Bit harsh. Not everybody is an expert. And I bet I could drive away an RX without reading the handbook or knowing what the foot brake does exactly.

Go a bit easier on people fella!

Yeah but to call a new member a troll? Like I said, harsh. And they'll prob never log on again now!

And maybe you don't buy a car without checking such things but obviously some people do.

And what if the op's second hand RX didn't come with a handbook? What then?

I know you could go online and ask people on a Lexus forum?

How do you drive away without knowing how the parking brake works - with extreme difficulty....

I've only just got the car. The manual doesn't explain too much and I haven't driven it anywhere near a mile.

This is the second thread you have been less than courteous on, and is see you have warnings already.. The idea of a forum is to help people with queries is it not?

If you cant be helpful and polite don;t post...simple.

Anyways, Welcome to the club Shaho.

And it is the place of staff members to exercise judgement in the face of trolls. They are always newcomers and they ask stupid questions:

How anyone can buy a car and not realise how either the parking brake works or that it is permanent four wheel drive is beyond me and points to troll at the kindest.

Then how did you drive it even that short distance without finding and then releasing the parking brake?

This is classic troll behavior. Go to a new webboard ask an inane question or make such a comment then sit back to await answers and enjoy any warfare they create.

That is a valid point, when I bought my LS400 the guy explained during the test drive about the parking brake so all was clear. I left the same car at my brother's the other night and he rang me the next day to say he had moved the car and although he had found the lever to release the brake he didn't have a clue how to reapply it.
