Problem To Gearbox

Recommended Posts

Hi guys....

i'm looking for an used IS200 and i've known that the most diffused problems are:

- the calipers and alloys oxidation (but it's only a cosmetic problem)

- the problem with the radio (err 3)

- the sticky gearbox

- the paint is delicate

others???

Xcuse me another time guys but i don't have understand so much the problem at the gearbox... I've read all the discussion about but i don't understand....

I've understand that in the passage from the first to second speed (when the engine is cold) the gear may be sticky.....

What does it means?

A noise or it's like an "obstacle" that makes the speed chage difficult???

WHAT????

ANY OTHERS PROBLEMS WITH YOURS IS 200???

I know besty.... i know.... :crybaby:

Lexus MUST BE perfect cars! LEX are the best all over the wolrld and only the idea to have a problem makes me mad!!! :shutit:

So unfortunately even your IS200 had this problem... But at le lexus Europe what they say?

In all the posts i've read that the cause of the problem is unknown.... :duh:

They try to change the diff. and gearbox oil or change the clutch... but the problem sometimes is not solved!

Only a totally new gearbox makes your lex regular but... NOT ALL TIMES!!!

i have to be pretty good to change from first to second at speed, the rest of the gears seem ok,i think a new gear box design would be the best idea, afterall a normall car only has five gears ,maybe six gears hasnt been mastered yet.they also say in the manual push hard to get into reverse, whats that all about.higher milage cars will start to suffer i think.on a site on the net i was on they done a review on the 200 and said the gearbox was crap, lexus wont change it cause we keep buying them.

The issues were approx as follows;

1. Changing from 1st to 2nd (and sometimes 2nd to 3rd) was difficult to get into gear without a pause, when the gearbox was cold. Usually cured by fluid change, if not then I think they change the box!

2. Also, some people (myself included) have noticed a clunck when changing. Not sure what that is, though on mine, sounds like its from the rear - poss diff, or maybe the shaft or something. Someone mentioned there is a sliding coupling somewhere to make the takeup smoother??

3. There was on a thread a while ago, mentioned my SupraChargedIS340, something about a TSB (technical Services Bullitin) which mentioned the gearbox issue. Was a tolerance problem from memory - a search should pick it up.

4. There are then issues with the Clutch......
