Why We All Drive Japanese Cars

Just stumbled across this on youtube, it's a Leyland video, brings back memories of some pretty poor cars, see if you can spot all the actors of the day pretending to be leyland workers, including the lovely Maddy Smith, the hammy bloke off crossroads, Hercule himself, and a few others.

Brits are known to be very good at bringing new ideas but always fail on build quality and reliability.. were as the Japs dont bring the ideas, but take an existing one and improve on it. manufactures like Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Subaru, Mazda always take up top spots in most reliable well built cars and this has gone on for years..

One of the best cars Mazda has ever & still makes is wholly based on the Lotus Elan namely the MX5

Haqving owned 2 Mazdas (RX8 and MPS) three VAG cars (Fabia VRS, Seat Leon and golf Mk2) a french car (306) and a Mitsubishi FTO and now an ISF i would summarise as below.

1. Jap cars are always amazing bang for buck when compared to their german counterparts in terms of spec for your money.

2. I didnt find the build quality as good in the MAzdas as i did in the VAG cars BUT the lexus and Mitsubishi are as good if not better in some respects thatn VAG.

3. Jap cars ARE more reliable than VAG cars and early issues with wheel corrosion across jap cars seems to be resolved BUT paint seems to be a lot thinner and so chips more easily. Mazda's had a fair few squeeks in them which was irritating but lexus and FTO were impecable.

4. French cars a cr@p!

5. If you buy Jap there is definately a pecking order in terms of quality. My lexus is remarkable in compariosn to my Mazdas.

6. Lexus customer service is FAR superior to any VAG experiance i have had.

Overall Jap cars are more reliable, better speced and priced compared to VAG rivals biut there is still a pecking order in terms of quality.

Off topic a but but hey ho!
