2Nd Hand Rx400H - What Are These Components And Are They Expensive?

Recommended Posts

Hi

Considering buying an RX400h. The bodywork is generally ok, interior is very good. But the wheels have suffered what seems to be the Lexus canker. I can work on that.

The thing that's a bit more of a mystery to me, and I'd really appreciate any thoughts from the experts on here, are these components of the suspension which seem to have suffered from some deteriotaion, much moreso than the rest of the undercarraige. What are these things and does anyone know how much they will cost to replace?

And does the general state of corrosion there look normal/ok for a 55 plate?

Thanks (sorry about image size, best way to show detail)

Compared to my 1994 import LS400 that looks pretty bad but appears mainly cosmetic.

The antiroll bar is I think coated with a plastic type material which if water breaks in does flake off as seen in your pictures.

There are specialists who will remove all the rust and crud then treat the under car areas, worth considering if you intend keeping the car for some time.

Nearly forgot, welcome to the LOC :)

Thats the anti roll bar, it doesn't look pretty but nothing really to worry about, but it appears to be the normal state of corrosion on most Japanese cars, the powder coating/paint is not of a high enough quality to withstand GB winter salted roads.....its had seven years without being touched it appears, so at least you know its been reliable :whistling:

If only it had been given a quick squirt of waxoyl or some such each major service it might still look like new.

First off welcome to the club, My 98 gs300 isn't as bad as that TBH, could have spent some of it's life near the coast?? As Steve says it looks superficial at least.
