Will The Isf Become An Iconic Car?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering what people think....

1st jap car to really mix it with bmw and Mercedes.

1st car on be road to have 8 gears. Almost all the gernalists said it was to many but more and more cars are getting 8 speed boxes in them.

1st proper performance car released by lexus in what looks like what will be a long line of f models.

V8 rwd ... Mmmmm

I think it's too early to tell just yet as the F is still quite new. Cars like the RS Cosworths had cult status even when they were released, but they had years of pedigree behind them with the RS badge. But as you mentioned, it's what is yet to come that will determine its future status - similar to the status now held by the original M cars.

The only way this could feasibly happen is that future F models begin to compete (or beat) the German equivalents amongst the motoring press and wider communities. Our cars will then become 'the originals'; helped even more by their reliability. The status of performance Lexus' will also be helped by the LFA which I believe will be (even more) widely revered as the years go by.

To be honest though, I'm not too worried because, now I have owned one, I 'see the point'. If I find them awesome, then I know future thunder saloon owners will do the same. I owned an Escort Cosworth a few years ago and, while it was a hoot to drive, it was rubbish in so many areas - and yet I still see them as fantastic cult cars - they are just too slow!

I think all the right ingredients are there for it to happen. Can't wait to see the other f offerings.

Maybe a f estate???

Are there plans for f varients of most models? They need to compete with s3 etc

Lexus should have made a faster option version of the ct . I had an f sport ct for a couple of days . Looked brill but drove awful . What a underpowered car ,such a shame .its just not a sport .

I drove the new is300 h . F sport Same again , looks brill but just not powerfull enough .

I love the 250 but same again too flat when I needed to overtake .

I've heard there's a new coupe coming out. Unless it has a v8 I can't see it being very quick unless it has a turbo etc .

I think it will become a cult car in time, for all the reasons you suggested Stu.

I think the lack of turbo's limited the market in some ways. The horsepower chasers went for the GTR, Evo, and Impreza.

With only just over 200 on UK roads, the ISF will be a collectors car one day I'm sure.

I am not sure if Lexus GB will ever sell another F model in the UK. There is too much overhead associated introducing a model just to sell around 300 units. More worryingly I think latest trends indicate V8s are dying out in favor of turbo charged smaller engines. But I think all of the previous will help the F maintain a special status over here.

  • 3 weeks later...

The RC-F will be here in 2015.

Heard rumours about a GS-F also but haven't seen anything further about that.

I'll be down at my dealer in 2015 though looking seriously at the RC-F

I was told the RC-F would be here this summer but I'll ask for an update when I'm at the dealer in Feb for a service. I hope it is coming soon. Then the dealer demonstrators will have time to fall to a sensible price for summer 2015.

I think it's the standard RC that is available this year with the RC F due in 2015
