Flat-Bottom Steering Wheel Installed!

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys,

So finally got my hands on my tasty flat bottomed steering wheel. :)

Only collected it this morning, but it's already fully installed on my baby! ;)

Will do a few daytime shots as well.

First impressions are very good. Feels thicker at the 3 and 9 grip positions. The material and stitching is as good if not better than the OEM one.

Install took around an hour from start to finish.

Job was fairly straight forward. Followed a good guide from our US brethren. ;)

Started by disconnecting the Battery, then applied the brake pedal for 90secs. This fully disables the airbag.

I've typed it up with photos for anyone that may need it down the line.

I'm also willing to extent my fitting skills if needed! :)

Looks better in the flesh like most things!

Very pleased. :)

I'll get back to you on how it feels driving chap. :)

Only got it installed last night, so haven't really driven it anywhere yet. ;)

The flat bottom certainly helps with clearance as far as your thighs anyway.

You'll have to pop over or have a look at the meet Stu is trying to arrange Andy?

I'll be at the rolling road day as well chap.

These are also not that unreasonable cost wise, if you can get someone to bring it over from the States for you (I go quite a lot on business).

Cost me $528 which is around £320. :)

The one from Sewell is $643.

:)

Looks great...but how's it feel driving? I bet it's much better and would help me as I'm tall.

Probably ideal for you with your volume button issue ;)

That's exactly what I'm thinking.

You could just chop your feet off at the ankles?

Not sure I can make the rolling road but I'm in for the meet in June. As long as I'm careful with your volume button though :innocent:

Lol. Should be fine chap. ;)

Not 100% if I can do the June meet yet. Get back from the States a day or two before it, then getting my service done on the Monday.

Will see how it goes.

Here's a few daylight shots I took today. :)

Had my first drive as well. Very impressed. Feels much nicer than the old one. Takes some getting used to though with the flat bottom. Can't spin it round like I did with the old one. Lots more room between my legs and the wheel now. :)

Looks really well, I presume all the buttons are original, i.e didn't come with the wheel? I find the original wheel a little rough on the top and avoid holding there if possible.

Hi Damien,

Yes, all the controls are from the original steering wheel.

The top feels better along with the entire wheel. Pretty sure the materials used are better than the original as well.

I'll be typing up a full how to install guide in the next few days as well.

Took me less than an hour to remove the original, remove and re-fit everything on the new wheel, and re-install it.
