Just Bought An Is-F

Hi Kevin - how was it on track days and how did it compare to the usual track day suspects?

So on GT tracks it's great, Bedford's Sen circuit was mighty but you'll struggle more on twisty stuff like Brands where the weight of the car and the short gearing counts against you.

This is a little bit of my GoPro footage from a wet day at bedford in the IS-F

Not happy with that...wanted to watch more of it :geek:

It just makes me want to do a track meet even more now.

It's well worth it, I did 4 during the time I had the car. I'd say do them but that you need to pick your tracks, Bedford was great, Rockingham on the international circuit was also good - Brands Hatch on the smaller circuit was fun but not a great circuit for the car as you've not really got the chance to stretch it's legs.

Fundamentally the biggest problem i used to have was getting the car turned in, it's heavy and that shows sometimes.

But if you're going to do a couple of days a year then you'll be absolutely fine, the brakes and tyres both held up really well.

So can't remember which setting the TC was in for that Bedford day but normally I did some runs with it in sport and some with it switched off. Sometimes in sport it was a bit conservative coming out of the corners so you'd struggle a little to get the power down as early as you'd want.

this is when driver training is useful. I suspect the isf needs a 'trail brake' into the corner to keep the front tucked in. Too much = understeer. this is esp true if you come off the brake and turn in, as the front got lighter as the brakes were released. Id need to get it on track to see. or, the Chris Harris way and stomp the throttle to use the back to get the front in. That may get very exciting very quickly!

Yes basically I found that to get it to turn in well on sharp corners you need to brake way longer than you expect. Certainly true with hairpins.

Can't say I tried the method Mr. Harris has been known to use as i'm paying for the tyres :D

never had a problem on msv days. But there will be some fast stuff and experienced drivers so you'll need to pay attention to your mirrors. everyone has a first time. Not everyone has a first time with a five litre v8 to play with. Mine was a fiesta xr2!

you might want to look into track day insurance which is peace of mind. I used to use moris.co.uk before getting a policy which includes it as part of the normal terms... But accidents are rare, just relax and enjoy the fun

Who are you insured with if you don't mind me asking Dave? I didn't think any i surers offered track day cover as standard!

reis.co.uk but there are quite a few schemes around, certainly for caterhams and lotuses etc. im sure they would offer terms for such a specialist car as our isf. reis were not competitive for me for the Lexus but i had no ncb, as it was an additional car. Might be better this year, shall find out soon enough.

I'd be interested as well Dave. :)

Can we get a new thread going?

May be able to bring along a good mate of mine that raced in a few different series (Time Attack, Eurosaloons etc).

He will hopefully offer some insight into any areas our cars need addressing to improve the handling etc.

I'm sure he would do some coaching for us as well.

It's all about "seat time" as my old racing buddies told me. :)

The more you get, the better you will become.
