How many miles were on the clock? I understand they are liable to fail anyway after about 50,000 miles, but will last longer with a well maintained engine. Around 84K at the time so I guess it was a very well maintained engine. In fairness though the feature on Channel 4 (it is headline news now) appeared to be saying that the problems occur almost instantly after filling up. Rough running with car going into limp home mode. In my case the engine management light came on but I was able to use the car for almost 2 weeks without incident before Lexus could look at it. On another note, are religious references automatically censored on the board regardless of context? In my original post I used the well known phrase starting "act of" followed by the reverse of dog. The last word seem to have been replaced by ***. I'm certain I didn't type *** in my original post unless I've been inhaling the fumes from the dodgy petrol :) A lot of forums stop you using naughty **** words ( see that was a 7 letter word ) anyway back to the topic I live between London and Southend ( someone has to ), just about all of the fuel in this area comes from either BP at Coryton or Esso at Purfleet , I happen to know Tesco fuel comes from BP. too many cars suddenly having problems with ****** ( see it did it again ) hego / oxygen sensors. I'd guess someone in the refinery pressed the wrong button. I took a Galaxy in for an MOT this morning, they had 8 cars , a friend who has a small workshop has 6 and I got a call from a customer with a Yarris saying there's a light on and it's not running very well. at least I have a good idea where to look now

Hi Maneesh Thanks for your reply. By exceptional I mean that the rear pads were totally worn out before the fronts were even over 50% used !!! In terms of mileage, I can only guess but it would probably be around 15,000 to 18,000 miles. I am still using the same front pads (they are still ok) and my mileage since they were new (at the same point as the original rears) is now circa 25,000 miles. I just had a chat with a helpful chap at the Lexus Contact Centre. He tells me, on advice from Lexus Technical, that there is no brake weight compensator fitted on the GS300 Sport - so it's down to the traction control. His recommendation - take it to the Lexus service people. I.e., just what I'm trying to avoid !!! Regards, FastLemon The old Ford Scorpio's wouls always wear out the rear pads before the fronts, and always the outer pad without the wear indicator first :tsktsk: Can you turn off the traction control ? If you don't drive the car too hard do you need it ?

I read somewhere that if I put bosch plugs in the car wont work. It needs the standard make? is this true? Also does anyone know what will give the best performance and life? Thats why thought Busch super 4? No that's total BS, they will work but possibly not as well or for so long, remember they should last 60k. BUT from experience Jap cars work better with Jap plugs. Personally I'd go with NKG or Nippon Denso.

I'm just about to nick the wife's Galaxy, while she's still in bed :D -
I'm not interested in the wheels I've got a shed full. You may have done a few BW35's like the old Ford C3's trust me things have moved on, and so has al the crap needed to do it. I did a brake band in an CD4E a while ago in situ, eithter I'm getting too old or I just don't need the money any more but that was the last one.

B)--> QUOTE(T7RY B @ Feb 5 2007, 04:01 PM) ← I don't think any induction kit will make a MAJOR difference to performance just on its own. The HP gain will probably be the same with any induction kit. It is when you add manifold & exhaust sytems etc and start going down the road of all out engine mods that you will see great differences. Exactly, how much does Mr. T spend on development ? then for less than £200 someone offers huge performance gains, it just isn't going to happen. Admittedly manufacturers have to meet emmission and noise levels, but if more power was so easily gained just by getting more air in they could and would do it. More power requires more fuel & air.

Ball Joints

No a CV joint "Constant Velocity" is on a drive shaft, so on a GS it's at the back. Ball joints connect the lower wishbone to the bottom of the suspension leg. £50 sounds way too cheap for a CV joint, I'd expect nearer £200 from Lexus. -
Recently I had an Astra doing all sorts of odd things, turned out the owner had just replaced a tail light. He didn't do anything wrong and fitted the correct bulb, which just happened to be faulty but worked fine if you put it across a battery. For the sake of £1 change the bulb K.I.S.S. keep it simple stupid, is always a very good starting point and often the cheapest. Good luck.

Mk1 Gs300 Mot

Not where I go, most places do but my man is very reasonable. -
Exactly where are the leaks ? I'm guessing at joints / pipes. If so it's almost certainly because the AC has not been used and the O rings that seal the joints have shrunk or cracked. This could be a case of £10 worth of O rings as opposed to £1000's . I'd be concerned about shipping a condenser from America in case it got damaged in transit.

A couple of things here concern me, if the tyres are only a couple of months old how has one worn to the extent of being below the legal limit ? and how close are the others ? If you can't get a Pirelli Zero then either don't use the car or compromise with a pair of cheap tyres until they are available. remember you are going to get hit with a full re test fee if you don't get it back soon. -
