  1. All they need to do now is have insurance details on file and to get all the illegal cars/motorists off the roads (AND MAKE THEM ACTUALLY PAY FOR BEING ILLEGAL!)........I think its a step in the right direction though. ← They do have your insurance details on file, I still have a traders policy and every year I have to tell ther broker what vehicles will be covered by that policy. it's not for the insurance co it's for the gov / police. As for the new MOT cert's it's a computer generated sheet of A4 with a small piece you can pull off and stick to your windscreen. Don't they are not easy to get off. The place I use for MOT's has been issueing them for about three months.
  2. That's also used to heat the trans oil in cold climates. if your looking at fitting an aditional trans cooler try a local gearbox reconditioning company. I've fitted a few and they cost me £30 a time. You just cut into the oil lines to the radiator, usually only takes an hour start to finish.
  3. Must be difficult potting those Balls with that in the way. So much other crap on there I had trouble finding it . Helped a friend change the belt on his diesel Fiesta today. First one of the belt and chain ones I've done, as usual progress for Ford means going backwards. The belt cover now supports the engine mount, what a P.O.S. design
  4. My new belt has been on the pool table since August I have to get my a$$ in gear and do it
  5. Harley's are notorious for this, and the Harley dealers in Dorking is the worst, i've seen probably ten people have to push their bikes away from the shop to get them started. Last year I called in the opticians on my way home the shop is perhaps 1/2 mile from the house, came out bike won't un arm . I decided the battery in the fob was flat and walked home to get the spare, no that don't work either . Start pushing get about 200 yards pushing 700 pounds is not easy, and it started. So somewhere near the opticians is a phone mast.
  6. As usual Hardley Davidson have screwed up , the event for Saturday is actually for Sunday ( along with the other event on Sunday ) soooooooo I should be there.
  7. I might be able to get there, it clashes with a Harley event, but I might try and do both. No run for me
  8. A little too much oil shouldn't do any harm, the trans must have a breather and will vent it if needed ( common fault on Cosworth Scorpio's ). Auto transmissions work by hydraulic pressure applying clutch packs. The ratio's are achieved by epicyclic gear sets. Slipping can be caused by low pressure ,worn seals and or worn clutch plates.
  9. You will probably find that unless you put your foot on the brake you can't get it out of park. The noise is the solenoid pulling the lock pin
  10. I was told by my local dealer the Mk 1 GS has a different off set. You have to remember that fitting wheels with a different offset can put excessive loads on wheel bearings
  11. DLJ you must be in a different Essex to me , I saw three Mk1's on my travels today, around Basildon Wickford and Rayliegh. As far as I can tell there are three in Benfleet. I bought my mk1 on an impulse , wasn't looking for one but there it was R reg. genuine car with 16,000 miles from new, only done 126 miles in four months since it's MOT. slapped £5k in his hand and drove off. Wife loves it now I fitted reverse sensors.
  12. Tuesday 4th October, car wasn't ready yesterday but will be today I was told. We wait and see. ← Well I just checked Sky news and BBC News 24 no reports of blood shed in Bournmouth Sooooooooooooooooooo is it done ?
  13. Well they are going to be good if they can. You need the head on the block and the cam belt on to test compression. You can pressure test a head off the engine but that will only show up cracks. You must have the patience of a saint, there would be blood and body parts all over that stealership if it was my car. I'm thinking of flying out to Florida to kill the mismanagement company that are supposed to be looking after our house
  14. First thing I bought for mine was a cam belt £25.04 from my local Lexus dealer, it's still in the garage . mine has only done just under 17k but it's 7 years old. I know the workshop foreman at the dealers he said he's never seen one break i don't want to be the first.
  15. I just bought a cam belt for my Mk1 even though it has only done 16 k they should be changed every five years. Genuine Lexus belt was £25.04 a Gates belt was £23 from the local shop. Acording to the Auto data book they don't always bend valves, it say fit new belt and check compression.
  16. Not exactly the same car ,but my brothers Soarer TT has just done 160,000 km and it doesn't use a drop of oil and is still running the original turbo's. His car has a turbo timer ,one sure fire way to wreck turbos is to rev it up and switch off. The timer keeps the engine running for up to two minutes to allow the turbos to slow down and cool a bit , even though you have got out of the car and locked it.
  17. Check tyre pressure and tyre condition Never ever assume any garage has serviced a vehicle correctly ( 30 years in the trade has taught me this much ). Could be a rear drive shaft CV joint.
  18. your tyre pressures are not too low so it's not that. I seem to get between 22 and 25 mpg out of mine, if your sitting in traffic it's going to make a big difference to cruising at 65 on a motorway. So will 90 mph on a motorway. Running the AC constantly will cost you a few mpg. Have you checked the obvious like air filter ?
  19. Sounds like total BS to me, and if it's pourous boring it will probably make it worse not cure it. Are you an AA or RAC member ? if you are I would talk to them because if what you are relaying is correct this garage knows nothing.
  20. It's got six cylinders , one bent valve would make it idle a bit lumpy you probably wouldn't notice it at higher revs, and how did it get bent ? I would go to the dealers and talk to the service manager . Find out WTF they are doing. Essex Ford gave me all sorts of BS about my wife Galaxy until I mentioned Watchdog, suddenly they couldn't do enough for me
  21. A failed cat won't make it fire on only two cylinders, if it was blocked restricting flow it would only run at low revs. It should take a decent tech about an hour to establish if it has a spark at each cylinder compression and fuel pressure suck squeeze bang blow , if it has spark compression and fuel and it's all hapening at the right time it should work. if any of these are missing that's when the problems start . Electrical faults can take time to find and repair.
  22. Jonathan, the two fault could possibly be related , there is a chance it's something like the ECT ( engine coolant temp sensor ) out of range and confusing the ECU. 4th gear is controlled electricaly on a lot of cars now. Does it still overheat if you go up the hill in 3rd ? and is it over heating or just the gauge going up ( again possibly a faulty sensor ). I would suggest you get a competent auto electrician to look at the car. Lots of supposed auto trans problems turn out to be engine management. You would not believe the problems a faulty mass air flow causes on an auto Mondeo, and the difference is £100 or £1500
  23. It will only be the jet ski or possibly the Harley on a trailer if we go anywhere (er indoors won't go on the back ). I know all about gearbox's I used to be an R&D tech for Fraud motor co. Thanks for the warm welcome.
  24. Hi , I just joint after buying my first Lexus, a 97 GS300. not the car I was looking for but with only 16k from new and at a bargain price I ended up with a nice car instead of a pick up truck So my first question is where do I get a tow bar from ? Tow sure etc. don't seem to list the GS.
