  2. Cheers for the rapid reply. I have had the tyres checked and changed front to back, and no difference. The suspension is all new on the front, and new o/s rear hub on the rear also had new subframe on the front and drop links and car has tte roll bars. Thanks for your suggestions I have just had a look around and wonder if I should take a day out to see the Doctor ?? S ← wouldn't be a bad idea. guess its a case of eliminating possibilities until its sorted. hope you sort it out ← How do I contact the Geo Doc ?? ← send him a pm: wheels-inmotion.co.uk no doubt he'll be along either tonight or tomorrow and post in this thread. keep your eyes peeled. :D

  4. so the gear knob just unscrews straight off ?? what do you mean by twist the gaiter?? gonna give it a try in the morning. ← yes it just unscrews - it might be tight. twist the gaiter - when the knob is off or loose, grab the top of the gaiter and twist it a bit so the whole gaiter twists slightly ← ok, thanks. i'll give it a go tomorrow. what's the logic behind doing this??? will it just re-align the gaiter?? cheers rob
  5. unlikely, but have you checked tyre pressure?? big differences can cause veering in either direction. what about suspension??? could a spring be fecked??? just a couple of ideas

  7. since about wednesday or thursday i noticed that there was a rattle/vibrating noise coming from the gearstick. obviously, its hard to tell exactly where, but i think it may be the leather gaitor surrounding the gearstick itself. it sounds like a squeaky kinda vibration and its more audible in 3rd and 5th gears; with almost no noise in 1st, 2nd, 4th and 6th. could it be the gaitor pulling?? or is there a spring (or something like that), that could be iffy?? by the way, the noise is the same whether the car is warm or cold. any ideas welcomed. cheers rob
  8. So I assume that the RX is only front wheel driven, hence the reason why the manual says to only put chains in the front. But what happens when the 4WD kicks in? ← as monster-mat said, even with the 4wd function in place, its your front wheels that are the driven & steered wheels. therefore, it doesn't matter (in this case) whether the 4 wheel drive is in place or not.
  9. how much is the new sonyy mp3 player????
  10. Can vouch for the quality on the LED's. got a set of reversing bulbs of mike and the colour they put out is so crisp its unbelievable! can well reccomend to anyone interested :D
  11. no mate, had been pretty dry (no heavy rain anyway). he said he's never had it make that kinda noise before, so i don't think it was that. anybody have any other ideas......jus so he doesn't get roped in by the garage mechanic later on! :duh: cheers rob
  12. hmmm, guess thats a possibility. the noise really did sound like gas escaping and it got worse as the revs increased. seemed to be coming more from the middle/ rear of the car than middle/front though. :duh:
  13. oh, one more thing....when you press on the accelerator, the noise gets more prominent!!! then almost dissapears when idling!!
  14. Just been to the Royal Albert Hall in London to watch the Masters Tennis. Great day out :D , but on the way back to Leicester things got really weird !! We drove down in my mates VW Golf (1.6, N Reg, 96 000 miles) and had no problems. the car runs really well and he's had it almost from new. however, when we were on our way back, after stopping at Toddington services, we noticed a hissing type noise coming from the middle of the car (i.e directly beneath the rear middle footwell). after stopping at the next service station, it appeared that all tyres were fine and there were no strange noises from under the bonnet. however, under the main chasis, all you could hear was a hissing noise (like gas escaping). i've not heard anything quite like it before. the only thing i can think of is that the exhaust may be blowing (maybe picked up a hit from some loose debris), but the noise just don't sound like a blowing exhaust. its not deep or anything like that!! anybody got any ideas :D ???? cheers in advance. rob
  15. that looks ok mate. i've used a few different sat navs and i've found that my TomTom Go 700 is the pick of the lot. its so user friendly and can be synched to your mobile (a funky litlle feature and quite practical really.....hands-free and sat nav in one!!!) cheers rob
  16. what mods you got mate???? u sure your insurance compamny will allow the mods to be added (even though they already are )???
  17. just been routing through my shed and found a couple of bottles of windolene. just wondered if its ok to use to get a nice finish on the windscreen, etc on the lex???? i know its designed for glass, but just wondered if it could damage the seals or paint??? just thought this might be the answer to my water-mark issues - fed up of using a window cream (like autoglymn). cheers in advance rob
  18. they'll let me have 153bhp at the fly for about that!!!!! well, youth does have its benefits in other ways though!!!!! :P ← You questioning my libido? ← haha...why should i???

  20. as long as they're packaged correctly and securely, the bulbs should be fine. don't think you'll have any problems with the ballasts breaking on transit. yes, you can buy replacement bulbs, but obviously they're more expensive than standard bulbs. just one thing i would say about some of the US HID kits is that you should look out for the illegal bulb intensities (i.e over 8000K). a lot of the US ebay companies sell the 10000k and 12000k kits, which are cheap to buy, but will get you in trouble with the boys in blue!!!!
  21. And so say I mate (57 and in my second childhood) ← Im 19 but got mine when i was 18. If emzy still comes on here would like to know the difference in male and female insurance prices for us youngsters. One thing i know is it aint cheap to buy/insure/run/mod at this age. how im doing all i aint got a clue. bring on my next and first well paid job :duh: ← how much do u pay for insurance elliot? ← Erm last year being 18 with 2 years NCB was £2000, done a few mods (they where on the car when i bought it ) bit mad but well worth it. Ill let you know how this years is its due in feb AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH :duh: ← is that £2k as you as the policy holder??? or as a named driver??? and is it fully comp??? i've just turned 21 and was quoted around £5K in my own name (bit steep ) so i'm on the policy as a named driver (still pay over a grand!!!) what insurance company are you with??? i'm with direct line and they wont allow any mods till i'm 25....so i'm kinda baffled regarding your premium and the fact you are allowed modifications :duh: cheers, rob
