  1. Leaving the offset aside... 275/35-19 is too big. 275/30-19 is equivalent to the standard 225/55-16.
  2. PWR - No difference at full throttle. Part throttle - revs higher before changing up and needs less throttle to cause a downchange. (I have found the effects of PWR to be much more noticeable on the 5-speed in my Mk2 GS300 than on the 4-speeds in the Mk1 Aristo and Soarer). O/D - It's just 4th gear. Has no other effect. Called "overdrive" because the ratio is higher than 1:1. It's not like the overdrive on cars like the MGB where an electrically switched 2-speed gearbox was added to the gearbox output shaft in order to provide extra, higher, ratios in 3rd and top.
  3. Mk4 Supra (there are two sizes, the big diff used in some 6-speed TTs isn't a straight swap into the Soarer). Aristo/GS300
  4. The Buypartsby web site shows KYB Excel-G shocks at 50.92 + VAT + delivery
  5. That's because the drain and refill only replaces the contents of the sump. Most of the fluid is distributed around the gearbox. I take "a dry fill is 8.2 litres" to mean that it would take 8.2 litres if the gearbox was completely empty. It would take even more than that to flush the old fluid completely.
  6. On my car there was a leak at the transmission cooler end. It was actually the metal pipe of the transmission cooler which had corroded. I just cut off the end of the metal pipe, made sure that all the swarf was removed, and re-attached the rubber hose. You can order oil hose from Merlin Motorsport if all else fails.
  7. I'm not sure about the IS200 calipers, although I believe that the front brackets are different from the GS 300 brackets, because the Supra calipers are a straight fit in the GS but need slightly offset inserts for the IS. GS/IS Pads are the same though. The GS front calipers (Mk1 and Mk2) are shared with the Aristo (except the very early non-turbo), Soarer TT, "Japanese-spec" Mk4 Supra, SC430.
  8. but you might need to change the wheels.
  9. Thanks, that might explain it. Perhaps it could deal with one rear wheel sensor not working, but now we've disturbed the other rear sensor and two aren't working. The gearbox is working as normal, and, as I said, so is the cruise control, so those speed signals appear to be OK.
  10. There was never a grace period after the tax runs out...... until a few months ago. Now you are officially allowed 5 working days grace to allow for the delivery of a tax disc bought online. http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/Ownin...cle/DG_10034732 You can renew your tax any day from the fifth day of the month. If you prefer to tax in the last few days of the month, there is now an exemption from the offence of not displaying a tax disc. This exemption covers the first five working days of the month and allows time for the new disc to arrive in the post. The exemption only applies if applications are made before the current tax disc or SORN expires. EDIT: Oops, read the thread too quickly and missed Steve's post. :)
  11. The VSC and ABS lights have been on, and the code said right rear wheel sensor. Replaced it, no difference, so investigated further today. Had the car up on the lift, removed the rear sensors, lots of swarf, peered into the holes, found the problem - something had worn down the ABS rings. Removed a driveshaft nut and tapped the shaft back so that we could see the ring, and could see that something (dust seal?) had been rubbing against it. The other side is also worn own, so need two driveshafts. So far so good. Put it back together. Drove home, and the speedo was behaving oddly, not reading below about 20, and now it's stopped working altogether, although the cruise control is working perfectly. Any ideas? I thought the speedometer took its signal from the gearbox. How could we have affected it by messing about with the driveshaft/rear ABS sensors? Just coincidence?
  12. If you must use spacers, don't use those, use hubcentric spacers which have a spigot to locate the wheel, and fit spigot rings if required. The wheel should locate on the hub, as designed by Toyota, it should not be located only by the studs.
  13. It's Van Aaken. They went bust a couple of years ago, apparently.
  14. http://www.imcsportscars.com/showroom.html Gearbox/transaxle: Porsche 915, 5 speed 1978 on, aluminium case.
  15. Motor Cycle News have done articles on this problem as well. If I ever have to send my licence to the DVLA I think I'll be paying a solicitor to keep a copy and witness that it has motorcycle and car entitlements on it. They have told people that they will reinstate the missing classes if presented with the pass certificate. Yeah, right, the bike test pass certificate I sent to the Ministry of Transport in 1968! :)
  16. If you check the tyre manufacturers' sites, including Toyo, you'll find that the permitted rim width for 225/40-18 tyres is 7.5 to 9.0.
  17. The OBDII tool used by the garage where I have my 1998 GS serviced cannot read the engine ECU, but it does read and reset the ABS codes.
  18. The wheels should fit snugly on the spigots. If you must use spacers, use the hubcentric ones, and use spigot rings if the centre bore of the wheel is larger than the spigot diameter. http://planetsoarer.com/offset/offset.htm http://planetsoarer.com/offset/studs.htm
  19. Sell it and buy an Aristo TT :) Seriously, there is nothing you can do to the 2JZ-GE except turbo or supercharge it, and it would be much cheaper to just buy an Aristo which already has the 2JZ-GTE.
  20. It's the same suspension design as the Mk4 Supra (and mostly interchangeable parts). Also very similar to the Aristo/GS - rear subframe is the same part number, for example.
