  1. I have enourmous size 12s (UK) which are even bigger if I've got my Timberlands on and I haven't had any problems. It is a seat position thing if you've got long legs ? Pedal positions are the reason I arrived at Lexus in the first place because I couldn't get to grips with the offset pedals on the 3-Series (my dream car then (I'm ashamed to admit)) and went to drive an IS instead !
  2. Had an RX300SE-L in Platinum Ice with the Oakham interior for a month now. I wanted a dark interior, but my wife and the sales rep convinced me that it is a bit of a cave in the RX with the dark interior. The Oakham interior is surprisingly easy to keep clean if you hoover the carpet every weekend. The leather is also very easy to keep clean, which is lucky because I have two kids under the age of three ! Apparently the Sussex interior with black mats is a popular shout.
  3. Could be power-steering fluid, I had a complete power steering pump failure in my old IS after ignoring a mystery clear fluid for a couple of weeks. I'd get it checked out.
  4. Has anyone purchased the official roof bars for the RX300 as shown in the manual ?
  5. I bet it only works in perfect conditions too. Thus in rain and fog when people should slow down, it will be useless.
  6. Not a contractor, but I'm an Information Security Officer for a City firm.
  7. The service we got from Renault when the gearbox in my wife's Scenic broke convinced me that I NEEDED not just wanted another Lexus ! I even tried pointing out to them the fact that you'd get better service at a Skoda dealer, but they couldn't understand what my problem was. As an AA man once said to me, "French cars mate, load of :tsktsk: "
  8. Hi Javadude, no the RX won't be seen near any tracks, unless you mean farm tracks (even then it's unlikely)! It's just a shame I'm so lanky and don't fit anymore ! I went for the RX because I just didn't want to leave Lexus (as per my quote in this year's Autoexpress Driver Power). A brief flirtation with the dark side of greasy salesmen in the form of the Volvo V70R was enough to convince me of that.
  9. Thornef, What else did you consider when buying the RX and Toureg ? I wanted a Volvo V70R (v.mad and fast) and test drove that on the same day as the RX. Strangely I preferred the RX ! I then couldn't be bothered driving the X5 and Volvo XC90 because I didn't fancy queuing for over a year for the pleasure of owning one ! If I could have afforded the V10 I might have had a go in a Toureg and even briefly flirted with the idea of a Porsche Cayenne until my wife reminded me that it is a hideous monster and that VW have built a much much prettier version.
  10. Spot on, it should have an Audi badge. I know it's the same parts bin but you can't seriously expect people to spunk £50K on something that shares a badge and poor dealer service with a Lupo. And don't get me started on the Phaeton, it's an even sillier idea.
  11. Its the last day with my IS as I'm off to collect an RX300 this afternoon . I should be excited, the RX is a great car but at the moment I'm just sad. My IS safely escorted my wife to hospital and brought home both our kids, and has only ever let me down once and then after plenty of (ignored) warning signs. It has to go because we can't fit a baby seat behind me (6'4"), and I can't stomach drive my wife's Scenic (unreliable with jelly handling) as our main car. Any of the motoring journos who claim the IS is soulless should live with one for a while.
  12. Apparently the Fire Brigade have a bit of a problem with Hybrids ! Autoexpress Story
  13. Yeah my insurance company said the same on the phone, but if the worst ever happened I bet the lying thieving b*****ds wouldn't pay out ! I wonder what their position is on the £2600 DVD ICE system that Lexus now offers ?
  14. Afternoon all. I'm due to take delivery of an RX300 SE-L this week. Being anal I've just been leafing through the bundle of former tree that my insurer sent me with my cover note when I noticed that my cover limit on ICE/Sat Nav is £1000. I'm guessing that standard fit Sat Nav and Mark Levinson sound are worth quite a lot more than £1000. Anyone have any idea what they should be insured for and should I expect the cover as standard because they are standard fit items in the car ?
  15. I've noticed something reading the latest brochure from Lexus on the RX400h. It seems to imply that the petrol engine only drives the front wheels, with the electric motors driving the rear when necessary. This means that it is a development of the FWD version of the RX330, and that it isn't a real 4x4.
  16. Yes. I mentioned the corrosion on my IS200 alloys to the service guys at Woodford during the 30Kand they replaced them with no argument at all :D .
  17. Very true, but if you could have the car with head and heart isn't that so much sweeter :winky: ?
  18. Ahh but if the RX400H turns out to be a depreciation success you may be able to justify the overall on-the-road running cost ! :D
  19. Exactly, but the implication was that if I traded in June it would be £250-300 a month less ! If a 2001 car is losing that much it would be worth £3000-3600 less next year, which is ridiculous. Appologies for any financial crises caused .
  20. Just been told by a Lexus dealer who shall remain nameless that my 2001 IS200 will be losing £250-300 per month ! Is this as laughable as I think or am I mistaken ?
  21. As far as know, the New GS will come with an all new 3.0 engine and the RX300 will remain as is. I think the 3.3 is being used as a world standard for the 'h', probably easier to just engineer one powertrain! I've just been looking at the US Lexus page and the RX330 has 230 Bhp and does the 0-60 dash in 7.8 (which is less that 8 secs in my book !) without any electric motors. So in the US all you get for the extra cash is an extra 40 Bhp and improved fuel consumption, but not performance. Surely Lexus are being a bit conservative with the quoted figures for the RX400h ?
  22. Thanks chaps. I wouldn't be so sure on trade-ins from Lexus, I was given a very good guide figure for my 3 and a half year old IS, although it is fairly low mileage for it's age. I like the sound of the hybrid, but if Lexus are really pricing it against the V8 X5 then I think it may be a bit too pricy for me. The SE-L is fabulous though, I couldn't fault it, even the slight lack of pace didn't worry me because you didn't feel like tearing around like a nutter in that car !
  23. Morning all. I'm thinking seriously about swapping my IS and a pile of cash for a new RX. I test drove a new SE-L this week and it is an excellent car. Does anyone have any predictions for depreciation on the new-model RX ? The old model wasn't quite up there with the XC90 or X5 for depreciation, mainly it seems because Lexus seems prepared to build to demand rather than making people wait over a year. Also would I be a fool to buy now and not wait for the hybrid ?
  24. Hee, hee, that was me :D . I didn't know they'd used it until I bought Autoexpress last night. I've been in the survey two years running now! BTW chaps the Mazda6 beat the IS last year too, and I seriously rate it: it's nice to look at (looks vaugely like an IS), great to drive, built in Japan (say no more) and cost next to nothing (a new 2.0TS for £12500). If we end up buying an RX as our main car, as planned, I may consider the 6 for our second car, although the alternative is a hot-hatch like a Honda Civic Type R .
