  1. OK I'll give you the looks and performance but pretty good I question. The 147 is a disaster for reliability. A huge number of the Selespeed gear boxes had to be replaced. The electrics are a disaster and they have the resale value of a pink Lada.
  2. Okay, a triangular shaped arse is not the best option. Actually, my arse has been complimented by many a lady! It might be that I have got used to the pleasures of a french seat under me, but any tips on seat positioning would be gratefully received. I have always found that tilting the seat base slightly back helps in any car I have driven. It pushes you back into the seat a little. I don't like feeling like I am sliding towards the pedals. I still have an IS200 but used to suffer from discomfort in my hip untill I did the above.
  3. Not trying to insult any ex Alfa drivers now but I would have thought the fact that the lexus will start in the morning is a nice touch. :D
  4. Good man. I was just about to ask the question on how to adjust it.
  5. Right. There's a job for the weekend then.
  6. This is something that I noticed a long time ago and it actually gave me a shock at first but didn't worry me after untill I saw a car with it's bonnet over the windsceen the other day. My bonnet moves quite a bit when I am at motorway speed especially when there is a truck or something on front. I have never noticed this on any car I have had before. It moves up and down and the first time I saw it I actually stopped to check it was closed properly. Am I being paranoid. Does it happen to everyone?
  7. In Ireland, yeh My bro is resoring a '64 splitscreen VW at the mo' so be a few more months before we're cruising in that This is what you want then. Give you the extra power as well. IS300 Sportcross in Galway Rare car especially in Ireland.
  8. I agree - mine has had the high density foam and it is not 100%, it is gradually getting worse. SO mine may be going in within the next few months. I just worry - 2 more years and the warranty is out. I may or not keep the car, but some poor b :tsktsk: r will buy it... :o Am I not right in saying though that any change made under warranty is covered for a year if done at the end of the warranty. if this is true then if you keep making them aware of the issue it will be covered for a longer period.
  9. You wern't to clear. Have you just bought it or did you own it from new? If you bought it used then a reset is advisable.
  10. You need to get at it from behind. Turn your wheels to give you access and remove the liner if you can't get in under. This is only after a certain date though. On older cars you just remove two screws at the front of the light. Can't remember what the change date was.
  11. i did not know that cheers most other cars go up when in auto Yes, however with most other cars the fuel consumtion goes up when they put an auto box in but the IS goes down.
  12. You woun't definitly get better MPG. What this does is let the car learn how you drive rather then the previous owner and it will set itself up to suit. If you drive harder then the last guy you will probably get worse MPG. Still worth doing though.
  13. You have to remember that the figures are not made up or even tested by Lexus. They are government figures that are reached using a set number and type of tests done on a test rig not on public roads. The car doesn't have to deal with resistance etc and is driven in the perfect way for economy which is not how most people drive.
  14. They use Navteq now. Think they used to use Teleatlas.
  15. I see them like this. The 1st gen IS has the stance of a rugby player. It has the look of leaning forward, pushing itself along with a slightly aggressive character. You feel like you should be sitting straight up or even a little forward as well when your driving. The new one though has a more sedate look. It seems to be sitting back. It looks relaxed and I can imagine that you feel like sitting leaning slightly back in the driving seat as well. It look more like it is being pulled along.
  16. I think that's the first time I have seen a photo of both cars together. It is amazing that when they are not parked beside each other the new one seems to be a much bigger car but in these photos they don't look that far apart on size.
  17. Just a thought, but is it possible to get your company to confirm that you haven't had any claims? My place will provide a reference letter detailing claim free period - don't know if or which insurers would accept this, but it might be worth a shot! That surprises me. I would have assumed that a letter like that was automatic every year. Over here in Ireland a minimum of 20 days before your renewal date you must receive a "No Claims Certificate" stating how many years you are claims free. Including years with prior companies. This gives you the power to shop around using the right information. This letter is very important because even if you decide to renew you must return it to the insurance company. Oh yes, you'll normally get a letter from the insurance company - I was referring to the company/place of work that supplied the company cars (and presumably arranged the insurance cover too). I see. I can't see why they wouldn't accept it. Most insurance companies will take account of years as a named driver so I assume the same would apply for company policies.

  19. Why would it need to do that? I can't see how the seat wouldn't still be IN the last used setting, since... well... it was the last used setting :winky: Not really. In the LS when you turn the car off the stearing wheel moves up and away and I think the seat can move also.
  20. Am I not right in saying that the seat etc will set itself back to the last used settings once you start the car. I know it happens in some of the older Lexus models with memory seats.
  21. There are a couple of nice Garmins with bluetooth included as well. If you are ever going to use it in Ireland then of the three (TomTom, Navman and Garmin) your only choice would be Garmin as they use Navteq maps which are now 100% here. the other two use Teleatlas who are way behind.
  22. I know it's a completely different animal but my old Nissan Navara pickup (2003) had this button. It is an engin preheat for those very cold days. As Jambo said though around most of this part of the world there would be no need. Might be useful in the north of Scotland though.
  23. Depending on how heavy your foot is you get between 24 and 30 mpg(if your very lucky). So then it really depends on how much you pay for petrol in your area as to how far you will get for £10.
  24. So you are saying that as well as putting on larger wheels you also put on larger tires. I.E. increasing your overall diameter / circumference. Am I not right in saying that this could lead to your tires rubbing and hitting the underside of the wheel well on larger bumps?
  25. Thanks NICNAC - I've tried it twice now using those tools - still no success. The mechanic who wanted to strip my boot was in Denis Mahony in Kilbarrick, Dublin - I agree he might have been thinking about the previous model even though I repeatedly told him mine was the latest. I don't think they sold too many MM systems here in Ireland so the knowledge base is a bit thin - I had to import my car. There is a service dealer in Rathgar Dublin , Murphy & Gunne, and the guy knows what I'm talking about so at this stage I'm committed to going in to him to get this done. They are aware of the special tool (with suckers on) but don't actually have one - naturally. Anyway I hope to get sorted during this week and I look forward to seeing the vast improvement in the coverage of our bumpy Irish roads. I forgot to mention that the dealer I bought the car off in London wanted £600 sterling (I kid you not) just to supply the latest DVD. Thanks to this forum I got mine in double quick time from the map-updates website http://www.lexus-mapupdates.eu/ for €159 - serious saving. Thanks to ye all for your replies - I'll post again after my visit to Rathgar. From Leprechaun You can check on www.navteq.com always to see if there are updates for your car. They now have 100% mapping of Ireland. I actually thought that Lexus used TeleAtlas for theirs because last time I looked the maps were realy bad. However this latest disk from Lexus has the new Navteq maps.
