  1. Two options for resetting the ECU yourself. Either disconnect the battery. (You will have to reset your radio stations after). Or open the fuse box in the engin bay. Look at the lid and it will tell you which is the ECU fuse, remove it for about 10secs and replace. Done.
  2. Most people get whiplash because they don't position their head rest in the right way in the first place. Even if there was anti whiplash headrests in the car you would still be injured if they are not set right and actually could cause more damage if to low. When you are in your seat and sitting straight your headrest should be just touching the back of your head. Right at the middle of your head also. Definitely not your neck. This would greatly reduce the chance of whiplash which is caused buy your head flicking forwards then backwards beyond its normal upright position. Have a look at where you have your set and see if it is right.
  3. I'm puzzled by the logic of that. Why should it be of any concern to the manufacturer? As long as they meet the law's requirement for a speed indicating device, their job is done. Every aftermarket satnav I have owned (four) has indicated speed, why would the manufacturer of an aftermarket device think differently on this matter than the maker of a built-in device? A speedo that depends upon measuring the distance covered by a rolling tyre is bound to have inaccuracies, which is why they are built to indicate speed "optimistically". If a satnav device offers a more accurate measurement of speed then it offers drivers a better basis upon which to make judgements and would appear to be a useful feature. How many of us drive a bit faster than the indicated "70" on the speedo, because we "know" that it has a tolerance inbuilt? I use my PDA GPS for my speed always but I have to admit that there sometimes can be errors. Once while I was driving through Malaga in Spain I noticed I was doing just over 625 km/h. I would say it is because of flaws like this that they will not put the speed up. If you are in cities or a forest for example you might not get enough satellites in view to give a correct reading. I know also that when in cities you can get satellite signals bouncing off buildings. This means that your receiver is getting the signal slightly delayed so again another inaccuracy.
  4. I have tested it on my IS200 and my wifes 318i. In the IS at 133km/h or so on the clock I am actually doing about 120km/h. With the BM though it is more accurate. 128km/h is 120km/h.
  5. Hi NICNAC, My first entry - I just got the new 2006/2007 disc but cannot get it installed in my 2006 IS220D SEL MM. One lexus dealer said he needed to rip out the boot lining and do 2 hours work - nuts :o . I tried popping the hazard light panel in the centre console (as per the manual instructions) but could not get it off to change the disk - without wrecking it. Can I ask who installed your disk or did you do it yourself. If the latter did you have trouble. Thanks in advance. Leprechaun. My *** it makes you worry when you hear stuff like that. I doubt you would want to bring you car in there if it had something wrong or even for a service. "New wiper fluid sir. We need to put that in through the glove box. Will have to remove the dash. 3 days" Which dealer told you that. Don't be afraid to name and shame. We need this type of information.
  6. Sorry, but I agree with Leddy too. Without the MM the residual value isn't as good, from what I've seen, since everyone wants it. It's unbelievably good value for money, too. Glad you like your new car, though! G Let me explain why this might be the case in Ireland. In the UK a standard IS220d with Multimedia is £25,825 (€39,082) In Ireland a standard IS220d with Multimedia is €49,225 (£32,520) Does that clear it up. Over here we pay about 30% VRT (vehicle registration tax) on all imported vehicles over 1800cc. That 30% is also added to any options that are factory fitted. Then you add on a nice 21% VAT However our pre tax prices are lower then the UK pre tax prices.
  7. I've just chanced upon this one (with L-shaped connectors at either end) http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ziplinq-Retractabl...1952717-3100752 Presumably this would do the job? From my understanding it is only the power source that needs to be L shaped.
  8. To be honest, in my view, yes you most likely will get the car back in good working order and because it is so new the colours should match well on the new parts. However, remember that your car will never be worth as much when you go to sell it as it would have been if it was not crashed. The only way to sort this is to bring a civil case against the guy for the loss in value because I don't think yours or his insurance company will do anything other then pay to get the car right.
  9. Yes. Keep the revs high. Above 4500 if you can and you will really feel the power of the VVTi system working. You might have noticed with your foot to the floor that just as the car feels like it is about to really take off it changes gear. It is slightly better with the Sport (ECT) button on but you can control it best with the gears.
  10. OK. Now I am confused. I assumed he ment the Sport button as there are only two buttons on my Auto. Sport (ect) and Snow. Where is the Overdrive on the IS. Have seen it on other cars alright but it's not in my car.
  11. It basically stays in each gear for longer. Still not the perfect change though. The fastest way to drive the auto is to use the actual gears and keep it above 4500 revs.
  12. I always go out of my way to park in an end space tight to the end giving as much space as possible from me to the next car. Will even drive around till I find one.
  13. The problem is the same in the UK and Ireland. The regulations mean that spaces are much to small for anything above a super mini. In the states you can park a Hummer in any space and still open the door completely without hitting the car beside.
  14. there is a big difference between a 160bhp gti car and an 80bhp corsa. i have almost double the bhp. surely this can't be right as i said, i am well aware of how to get the best out of a car, i have been trained to drive at high speed Now I can't be 100% sure but I bought my car with the same type of use. 21,000 miles in 4 years, elderly driver. Thought it should be faster and wasn't happy with the MPG at all (was getting around 22mpg on 90% motorway use). I reset the ECU by pulling the fuse for a minute. After about 3 or 4 days I am sure the car felt faster and the MPG definitely went up to around 27mpg. These cars do learn from the driver and will set themselves up to suit. I assume after that many years crawling around on short journeys make it a bit lazy and thirsty. Try a reset.
  15. To be honest I think this is becoming a major fault with the cars. I would not acccept it. If I was you I would park the car in a spot that you know the key fob will not work and call Lexus out. Do not accept an excuse of interferance. You should not have to check if your car will unlock everytime you park it.
  16. Right then. I'll be the one to say it. You are just unlucky. I got a 01 executive at the begining of the year and it is faultless. Only thing that has happened is the beading on the leather of the drivers seat has snapped but it is 5 years old. Car is completely silent. Now as a comparison my wife drives a 01 318 which has almost the same engine size (a 4 pot though). It creaks and squeeks. Has no power off the mark and wallows around (just passed the NCT though). It's up to you. (have to agree about the IS300 though. The only thing that put me off was the yearly road tax. Auto doesn't bother me though as my 200 is. My opinion is that if someone was kind enough to invent something to save me energy then I should use it. Also, anyone can match the 0-60 quoted for an auto but only the best drives can match a manuals)
  17. There is an IS 300 for sale in Lexus in Galway. Would be a nice upgrade if the money was right. IS 300 Galway
  18. From what I can tell Toyota switched to the straight 6 engine for that reason. Any 4 pot is difficult to make quiet. There will always be some vibration because the offsets on the shaft only being 90deg. A straight 6 is apparently the best engine for sound levels. Better even then a V6.
  19. I wonder if I could patent it and become fat, rich b :tsktsk: d on the royalities It's not just my system, but one lots of people on this forum use. Try this thread: HERE main tip is NEVER use a car wash, or even backstreet (or main road) hand car wash places, and use clean water and plenty of proper car shampoo, clean sponges and at least 2 buckets... Jet wash destroys rubber (including tyre sidewalls - which can appear to have fine cracks), and it can remove lacquer from chipped alloys. Being a green sort of person, I would say a watering can is best... For the initial wash I use one of those Flash auto dry guns for the end of your hose. Turn it to soap and give the car a spray. Rub the area with a clean soft car brush, mitt or sponge. Turn the gun to spray and rinse off the area you just did. Move around the car one panel at a time like this but try to keep the whole car wet all the time. When you have the whole car washed then switch to the auto dry setting which is basically a filter that takes out the impurities in the water that dry to leave water marks. Force off all the wash water with the filtered water. Then I go over all areas with a car squeegee, wiping it in a cloth after each pass, to remove the heavy water. The last thing I do then before the Polish / Sealer / Wax is go around the areas that hold water (like under the lights, licence plate, door trim) with a thin cloth to pull out all the trapped water. Usually at this point my wife is threatening to force a minor industrial accident on me and I have to promises to do her car the next day. By Sunday night I can’t stand up straight. Unless your car has lots of swirl marks already I wouldn't actually recommend using polish. Just wash then clean and seal with the Car-Lack68 Systematic Care and coat with P21s. These both go on and come off very easily by hand. Don't leave them longer then the recommended on the instructions though as they will get more difficult to remove if you do. An electric polisher is only really an advantage if you are trying to remove swirls, scratches or tarnish and then only ever use a random orbit polisher.
  20. This is definitly not a tipical IS200 problem. They are normally rattle free for a long time. Mine is a 2001 and only very seldome do I hear any sounds from the dash. Yours might still be under warrantee. If it is then bring it in ASAP to get this and the other issue fixed.
  21. Other than the kids with the stones... ? i'd have to agree! looking at it now... the damage (material & human) could've been far worse... A kid was killed a few years ago in Ireland on the M50 by a brick through the window from a bridge. I don't think they ever found who did it either.
  22. Are you sure it is a brand new Altezza. These have been out of production for almost a year now as far as I know. Unless they kept up production in Japan after the launch of Lexus there.
  23. I was watching "Myth Busters" last night and they actually tried the cooking oil thing. They got a few litres of used oil from a "Greesy Spoon" and ran it through a coffee filter. As a comparison they set up an old diesel Volvo with a bottle mounted beside the windscreen so they could track fuel consumpsion. Filled it first with 1 litre of ordinary diesel and drove untill it was gone. Then they put in the filtered oil with nothing added at all. Drove the same route and found that they got the exact same distance. So it works. Who's going to be the first to try it.
  24. don't know what sort of MPG you can get from biodiesel but you can easily produce it at home for under 50pence/l How Surely you have to add something to the Fry Crisp and dry? Kerosene. Only probelm is that once you do add the kerosene you are then liable for the fuel duties that apply to all motor fuels. Obviously only if you are caught. But there might be a bit of suspicion with the fried chip smell coming out the back of the car. Another one for petrol users by the way is to dilute your petrol with bio ethenol. Almost all new cars will run well with up to 15% ethenol diluted.
