  1. For me its a love hate relationship On a good day its great but hit a cold morning on rough surface and the car creaks and groans. The ride can be very unsettled on these surfaces There is still quit a way to go to beat the ride on its main competitors Thought of changing over to audi /bmw best trade low miles se-l mm with hoshis 25 k So much for good second hand values alan
  2. Now that winter has arrived I note that when the car is cold the idle speed is about 1500..have to hold the car back..The engine takes about 15 minutes for the revs to come down to below 1000. It then settles at 600rpm when warm Do all the v6 petrol engines do this thanks alan
  3. Hi Evilweasel, thanks for your post, because it looks that I suffered the same problem. That sound I used to have, was the same as yours - the paper description is perfect. In my case, it occured only on specific moments - only on specific jumps, or when braking a bit harder. That sound was in my case so silent, that most of the time only I could hear that, none of other passengers heard it. Also specific was, that when it was raining, it wasn't doing that sound at all, it was completely silent. But next day the sound was back. I sprayed the silicone oil spray under the window, but it didn't help. Anyway, thank you and Northern Boys Luv Gravy, who posted the link, I checked the points of the contact dashboard with windscreen and I put a cloth there. See the pics: This was only "trial" version :) but IT WORKS!!! The sound is still there, but much much much more silent. It's hearable only when braking harder and I have to focus on it. There is no sound at all on the jumps. During normal driving I can't hear nothing. I cut the cloth and it's almost invisible now. I have to get a black cloth and it will be perfect. Or the best would be to get the original lexus foam, but I don't know where and how. After reading some posts, I don't want to put my lexie to garage, to remove the dashboard, specially when this is my only and small problem and I succesfully cured it. So thank you again, and I hope that my post will help you too. So this is what its come to!! Spend 25K plus and use rags to stop the rattles Lexus should be ashamed to see this..Last time I did something like that was when I used to build kit cars!! ALan
  4. Too right. You can't turn round for tripping over heart surgeons round here. Foot brake same as on the e class merc As the car holds 100% on hills I never use the hand brake. Before I changed to the 18 inch wheels I was getting 40mpg with the auto which is only about 3 mpg worse than the diesel on a run...Oh well it will all be hybrids soon and then we will see a lot of false claims about mpg!! Just read the Prius forums!! alan
  5. HI I wonder if anyone had had a similar problem My almost New IS 250 leather panel on the drivers seat was rough and did not match the rest of the seats The dealer checked it out and agreed it was below Lexus standard A new one was ordered but is the almostthe same as the present one. The dealer was also not happy with it either and has sent it to quality control NOw I beleive they are waiting a new one from Japan Colour is black. Could be a duff batch? Alan
  6. Hi has anyone tried '5 star shine' They claim it takes a very long time to break down as it is not was or silicone . Any experience with this stuff I am using Carlac at present and am happy with it though! alan sorry should have been a new post oops!
  7. Mines in on Monday too, Rattles, possible squeaky seat etc too... :duh: Must be a virus 18 inch wheels and fatter tyres have increased fuel used by 4 mpg on average alan
  8. Lexus had a training week for all dealers in Europe a few weeks ago . They stated that they aim to have all models as hybrids within the next few years. I wonder if that means that a diesel auto will not happen at all! The jury is still out on hybrids as to how much fuel they save also with high build and disposal costs can this be the best way forward? alan
  9. Hi How old is the car? Many pre June build have ratlles It sounds like yours needs the full MOnty with the dash out ,padding around the stereo , and the b pillar done as well I Know we have had 2 cars just the same If done very well the rattles will almost (95%) go If you are luck ywith no rattles it should stay that way alan
  10. HI I notice the the drivers seat leather is getting warn ( no longer smooth but rough to the touch and appears matt)after only very little use Is anyone else having the same Do think this is a warrant issue or just wear and tear ? thanks alan
  11. My local dealer told me there are plenty 17 wheels about as when they fit the Hoshis in Bristol they keep the 17 inch. Dealers have been offered them...cheap Try your dealer else ask Lexus UK where you can buy one! If the damage is not too bad try one of the wheel repair companies alan Lexus use Gary Parmenter who lives in Braintree I am sure he would come out his number is 07866499120 tell him Alan from romford gave you his number
  12. Woodford Lexus have about 6 autos ( one is Cadoxton) at the moment I assume you coudl get about 7-8% off alan Alan are the cars you refer to above at Woodford Lexus new or ex-demo? They are brand new Those will be the last until next year for them They have quite a few colours and a few diff specs alan
  13. HI Rattles seemed to goupto Mid may production But are better now taht sounds like a very good deal.. not sure about loosing the auto box My dealer has tols me the petrol manual hs problems with clutch judder....but the diesesl is fine( strange) enoy the car Alan When we bought out last car I asked the dealer to road test and give a written waranty that if it developed major rattles within a month I would get my money back. Seems sensible as we cannot test before we buy alan

  16. I quite agree 100% preventable just that most dealers use kids to do pre delivery polishing. But the water based paints are softer no doubt. alam
  17. Whilst economy on the diesel gets better with time no change on teh IS250 town 24 mpg out of town 37 mpg( clear run no traffic or speeding) alan
  18. As you mentioned paint work Went into BMW showroom yesterday under bright light the brand new cars ( even silver) have swirl marks that look like the car had been polished with a scourer Asked the salesman..he said all the new paintwork is soft and all look the same!! so not unique tolexus its water based paint BTW the rattles are back ..cold related for sure but the one that never rattled is still fine..wonder why soem are better than others Alan
  19. yes. and it has to be replaced after 100.000miles or 6 years, I think. I thort the perpous of having a chain is to stop it needing changing? Im no mecanic I was just under the impression. makes sense tho that it would need changing but why go to the expense when there belts last that long? Craig I agree Chains should not wear out on the Mercs the are not replaced I will check this out with Lexus alan
  20. HI I know that the 250 has a timing chain rather than belt but is this the same for the diesel engine thanks alan
  21. i have spoken to Lexus woodford service about the baransus They use Wheels direct and say that they can be repaired at home much the same as any other alloy wheel..only the paint is different If they are good enough for franchised dealer I am sure they are fine BTW cost about 40 quid per wheel( I have used them before on my merc with very good results) my local guy 07866499120 alan alan
  22. We have had two done both are rattle free The dash removal sounds much worse than it is Takes Lexus woodford who have done quite a few a day to do Worth doing1 alan
  23. This is a common rattle and AFAIK it's normally cured without problem. I also get the rattle from time to time and have resorted to thumping the centre speaker cover which does the trick :) There are two causes one is the entire dash needs removal the second is simply putting some felt around the radio and aircon grill It sounds like yours needs the dash out ALL lexus dealers are aware or these rattles and should be able to fix I have had two done in a year Write to Gill want at Lexus and complain they will send a senior person out to sort the car..HOw old is it? alan Car is only 6 months old and done 5,500 miles - Lexus Newcastle told me that they were only aware of rattles with the new GS - have you got Gill Want's e mail address and I'll give her a try :winky: This is a common rattle and AFAIK it's normally cured without problem.
