  1. How much difference is this switch supposed to make? I did a standing start with and without, couldn't tell the difference really. Maybe mine just doesn't work!
  2. Hi, Was wondering what kind of MPG in urban and motorway people get from the 2.5bi-turbo soarer? I'm interested as it makes more power than the 1UZFE 4.0 V8 and is said to be almost as smooth. Having crazy thoughts about my LS as I know of a 1JZ-GTE with low miles going cheap
  3. Hi, Was wondering what kind of MPG in urban and motorway people get from the 2.5bi-turbo soarer? I'm interested as it makes more power than the 1UZFE 4.0 V8 and is said to be almost as smooth. Having crazy thoughts about my LS as I know of a 1JZ-GTE with low miles going cheap :duh:
  4. I may have to. I have a significantly larger sub and custom box under the rear parcel shelf and the old plastic sub cover rattles like crazy when I turn it up a bit. how'd you get the old one out without knackering it too much? Also, struggled with getting the back of the back seats out too
  5. did the S1 LS always come with the sub in the rear shelf? I ask as I would like to get a shelf without the plastic sub cover thing.
  6. True Maneesh, but the pads are the same with the same co-efficient of friction and surface area. The difference could lie in 2 places:- the effective raduus of the brake disk (axis to centre of caliper piston) the ratio of foot pedal - master cylinder - available servo asistance to output pressure to the caliper, then the bore size of the caliper. All that said, I just designed a brake system for a wheel loader and used the same brake pack at the exle end to stop a 6.5 tom machine as it's 9 ton big brother, purely because using the same system keeps the volume up and the cost down. I reckon Toyota/Lexus designers are far smarter than me and they will have used as many comon parts as possible.
  7. true, but I'm talking about flea-bay and private motorfactors, thy often need to clear stuff out and sell at bargain prices. Call me cheap but I'm at the cheap end of the LS owning curve
  8. Hi Fellas, Does anyone know if the LS400 S1 brake disks are the same Toyota part number as another Toyota / Lexus model? Maybe the Camry? It's that time and I just bought pads for 11 quid inc postage (Camry 2.2 GLS) as opposed to 30 quid for LS ones, the part number is the same. Wondered if I could apply the same principle to disks, people expect you to pay extra if they advertise Lexus parts, they expect you to demand value for money if you buy Toyota
  9. Great, thanks. have you (or anybody) tried the blank CD thing so you can have 5 normal ones in there... I regularly forget mt PDA and leave it docked to my computer at work! so would have to listen to the radio :(
  10. My LS is a S1 with 177K miles but still smoother than my wifes people pig at 14 years old! Love the subtle but slick shots of the LS in spooks each week, understated cool.
  11. Yes, perfectly possible, this is the setup i have currently in my GS. If you empty the cd changer cartridge of discs it will let you select the changer "no disc" but will stay silent. Note that with this setup you have to disconnect the ipod to listen to the radio, as with the Lexus system all the audio paths are connected together. I have had this setup for a couple of years, it only works if you have something like an ipod which is "disconnectable". I'm having a 3 screen video system put in my car tommorow which is why i'm now going to develop a full solution with ipod control through the touchscreen and an extra input for the video system. Daniel. Hey Daniel, can you elaborate on the 'disconnectable' thing, I'm also looking for a better quality sound than the tape thingy but I use a pda phone as my mp3 player, is pulling the 2.55 jack out disconnecting?
  12. I took my LS for the 160 mile round trip to my parents this weekend. We usually take my wife's 04 scenic but my LS was at the back of the stack in the drive so off we went. We've also taken my previous car, Celica GT, but that wasn't the best for family comfort over distance. We leave Stoke after lunch, usually 1pm ish, when we hit the end of the A50 to join the M1 my 2 yr old always wakes up then cries for the rest of thetrip down the M1 to Leicester... Not today, not only did he not wake up at the end of the A50 but we got onto the drive before he even stirred! :o Even with my 18" wheels the change in road noise when going from roundabout speed to cruising (70 as I have a bit of a disc/prop wobble above 70, my only problem with the car at the mo) is minimal, I'm loving the LS. :winky:
  13. Glad to hear you are going ahead with sourcing a better LS after your not so good experience. You won't regret it once you're up and running.
  14. Chips is right but, on my S1 when the dash says 70 the GPS says 64/65, the ammount increase in profile discussed should only correct the car to about 66/67 GPS when the clock says 70.
  15. Gota smile at Syd! :D You are right, the simplest way is the cassete thingy, I paid 150% more than you for mine though!... 2.50 isn't bad though really. I bought the FM thans, two different ones infact (both from flea bay) both were BAD sound quality. Anyone bought one that works well? If so please tell us the make / model to look out for :D
  16. Enjoy! If you see a maroon MK1 on the A50 / M1 on sunday give us a wave, it could be me coming back frm stoke to Leiceister ;)
  17. It's good but posible it could be cheaper? I'm 32, FNCB and in Leicester, I paid 325 with the wife on too.
  18. I looked for rust on the 8 LS's that I considered when buying my 92 S1, never saw any on any of them. went to look at P reg e-class... it was rust central.
  19. Has anyone got clear side repeaters for their S1? If so which ones and where from? I can't seem to find anything other than oval ones, that will cover the original hole (originls are massive compared to most cars now) I have clear fronts and US style rears with clear indicator sections, it's just the orange side repeaters I want rid of. Not to the liking of the purist I know but I keep all the original bits so I can swap over if I fancy a change. :D
  20. I second cleverdick. You can pick up a S1 for not a lot of money, I came from a celica and although I loved it, the LS build quality is eons ahead of toyotas sports cars. I just went away for a week and had a new grande punto hire car, couldn't belive a brand new design could be so poor/rattly/noisy... maybe I'm now spoiled by 2K's worth of 15 yr old car! Keep the Supra for hoots at the weekend and get an LS for lording it over buz box drivers the rest of the week. ;)
  21. Hi folks, I now have 18" rims fitted (prev fitted to a soarer) to my 1992 S1 with what seems to be the right offset. the tyres are 235/40/18 which overall is only 50mm dia bigger than the 205/65/15 originals. The ride is a little harsher but the steering is so much better... other than a little tram lining. Has anyone else got 18's or larger? What camber angles and figures for the tracking did you use?
  22. I use tomtom 5 on my pda and play mp3's through it at the same time, I've found tomtom software great. Not used a tomtom all in one unit though.
  23. fab! I watched the re-run of the vet last night, was thinking if they would do a big cruiser... low and behold, an LS400! Bril, looking forward to it.
  24. the sound pack that I have drives all door speakers from the head unit but has a low level output for the amp to the sub. I think some later models and sound packs have an amp for the door speakers too. The ser 1 cars have the sub amp loacted in the boot behind the carpet on the left hand side it's a small unit (100mm x 300mm x 80mm deep ish) I thought about an aftermarket head unit but when I put the one I had in, it looked pants so I went back to the std one with an FM transmitter and my PDA means I can take phone calls and use GPS at the same time, all through the car stereo.
  25. You are right, the std amp is way to weak to power anything aftermarket. Easy choice is to buy yourself a 10 or 12" sub that's designed to run 'free air', thwn you can bount it from underneathe the parcel shelf where the old one came from but with an after market amp it's gona be lots better. If you don't mind loosing the boot space the easiest way is to buy a sub in a box possibly even with an amp already mounted to it. As mentione earlier, you can use the low level imput from the current wiring harness but you may want to make a new earth to the body and run youeself a new power lead straight from the battery (with fuse/trip as close to the batt as possible), this with a good earth to the body will reduce noise and avoid overloading the puny battery + lead in the harness.
