  1. Well I finally got round to fitting my HID kit.... WOW! The difference is amazing! I can't belive I messed around with my previous cars with so called high power and extra bright bulbs which gave little difference. The LS headlight has a cap inside the headlight which stops the direct lighthitting the front lense and therefore the pattern (marked the old one out on the garage door) is exactly the same just loads brighter! Not sure about the MOT fears that people have but it would be a 10 min job to put the standard bulbs back in so I'm going for the HID's for now, Best mod I've bought. :)
  2. what tyre size do you have? originals were 205 x 65 = 266.5, x 15" = 607mm rolling dia I have 235 x 40 = 188, x 18" = 645mm rolling dia But, my speedo is still reading onder what my GPS says so the tyres you have on your 16" wheels must be far to large in width and profile to put your speedo that far out.
  3. ... but no one minds. Brilliant plan! Horses for courses, stripped out woosh bang rice burners for weekend fun. Luxury cruiser for the rest of the time. I followed the same route but my weekend toy only has 2 wheels.
  4. Hi, I looked into this and there is an aftermarket that is specified up to the same exacting level as the type 4. Mobil ATF3309 I went over the specification documentation with a fine tooth comb and it looks good. Only problem is it's as rare as rocking horse poo and not a whole lot cheaper unless you buy in serious bulk (like a 205 litre drum!) Take a look... http://store.avlube.com/mobilatf3309.html
  5. bugger! I just bought an HID conversion for low beam :shutit: The place in Sheffeild I got it from (through flea-bay) say it's suitable for glass and plastic traditional lense headlight. It's a Bosch kit too not joe blogs import from malaysia. ;) We shal see, hope it works and I don't have to take it back out again.
  6. I've been looking on e-bay for a while, no luck so far but you could try one of the people that are breaking cars (on e-bay again) ask them if they'll pull one out for you?
  7. I've invested in a HID kit with 6000 lum bulbs... hope it's as good as all the websites say. Has to be better than the standard. :D
  8. Has anyone upgraded their headlights on a S1 recently? I have tried all the 30%extra power blue tinge rubish and the 95w ones to (they work but only last about 2-4 weeks) I think HID has to be the solution, anyone done it? Most of my drive to work is unlit A roads and it's the only think that lets the LS down. 1992 technology, seemed good then but I get blinded by new mondeo's ect coming the other way with their massive wash of light Oh, and what's the correct bulb, most places seem to say 9004 but some say H4 (1992 S1)
  9. Let us know how your drive home goes yellowlawn, I'm sure you'll love it! I hadn't driven my LS since 20th Dec, been ferrying folks round in the wife's people pig... what a waft of luxury this morning! Merry Lexus and a Happy new year ;)
  10. Hi folks, Has anyone experienced their starter motor not wanting to disengage when starting on cold mornings? My S1 has had this a couple of mornings now, can solve it by key off and re-start but saturday it took the third crank before it disengaged. Don't know if it's doing any harm but it sounds awfull when she does it.
  11. Can't see too much but thanks for trying. This must be the car I'm gona test drive! When I picked up my anti roll bar bushes I talked to the service manager and he told me about the 460 coming in and being pre-booked for many drives for pre-ordering customers ect, at the same time he gave me his card and said to call about having a drive myself once the busy couple of weeks are done... :) Looking forward to it.
  12. At the end of the day the LS is the best car Toyota have ever made... Some folks may be upset about calling their luxury cruiser a Toyota but let's face facts, Lexus was just made up to sell high end toyotas to the americans. Toyota do many things that the others copy and are near/top of the jap car game, so what you actually get is the lower cost (not necessarily cheap as in poor quality) end of parts for service / replacements and if you can get them fitted by a locally you will be real happy. (climb's off the automotive soap box) ;) Is anyone near by that can take our Boulton friend out for a spin? If youre in Leicester you can give me a call, my 1993 S1 is a bit of a tired old girl but smoother than my wife's 04 people pig.
  13. Go for the LS, it's a fab cruiser. I looked at the 728/735, the XJ8 4.0 and the S class all in the 3-3.5K range... I ended up getting much more car for less money with the LS. Just bought discs and pads for the front, total of 80 quid... you'd pay more than that for 1 disk on the Jag, probably on the beemer too. Chris is right too, go for higher miles and newer (providing good service history). :)
  14. Anyone driven a demo or taken delivery of a 460 yet? my local Lex dealer has just got their in and while piching up anti rol bar bushes for my old S1 he has offered me a teest drive... :D Just wondered who else has experienced the ultime already? What did you thing?
  15. Is it related to the light units or the switches? checked the fuses in the driver footwell?
  16. Thanks Steve, It was my mistake! I din't realise there was 2 fuses, I glanced at the cover and I saw headlight 15A and pulled that one, it was the left (problem was on right) and the fuse next to it was a 20A so never thought it would be another headlight fuse. Have replaced both fuses with 15A and all is well now :) Thanks for the PM aswell.
  17. how much cash have we all bled on insurance over the years... chuck a rock at it and phone auto glass with only your policy no they will deal with the whole thing). It works... got a stone ship on my smart car and they changed it the same day I called. :)
  18. could anyone provide me with a headlight wiring diagram? I bought CD manual from e-bay but I've scratched the CD and I cant get it to work :tsktsk:
  19. Hi folks, I just put 2 new head light bulbs in my S1, but something funny has gone on with the high beam. The headlights are fine when on normally but when I pull the lever to flash the LHS high beam comes on and the second fillament in the LHS head light comes on (I assume this is correct, it's what used to happen before). On the RHS/driver side the headlight seems normal but when I flash the high beam does not come on, the second fillament in the head light does not seem to come on, infact the headlight seems to get dimmer I checked that the connection in the high beam is ok and that the bulb has not gone, struggling to explain the dimming of the headlight though anyone had anything similar before I have to fanny around in the dark with a multi meter!
  20. (owners of 5K-50K cars, please do not get offended but there's a lot of LS' selling for old banger money these days) As the title says, anyone bought cheap from e-bay? how did it go? I'm loving my S1 so much I'm considering another to put some bits right on and sell on, may sell mine if I get a real bargain and I like the colour combo. :D but I know it's a risk as flea-bay is a risk in itself and then buying a car from photos is a risk and V8's arent selling cos of fuel costs... Just wanted to get other peoples feeling.
  21. thanks for the info It seems that the ol' forced induction makes the 2.5 straight 6 about the same as the V8. I;m still looking into the engine though, may be a good buy even if I don't use it straight away.
  22. I made 33mpg with the cc on @ 70mph. :) work and back 10 miles each way, all week in light trafic 300 miles from 70 litres = 19.4mpg :(
  23. sharpens throttle response, i.e. car shifts down a gear or two much more quickly, and it delays changing gear by 500rpm or so..so it DOES make a difference. doubt you would notice a difference on the LS from start as the gearing is quite long, esp since it's a 4 speed. you will notice it if you are needing quicker acceleration when passing vehicles, changing lanes etc. i've noticed the difference with my old LS and my current GS. Ah! Now that's why it doesn't seem to make a difference on a standing start 0-100, with the throttle nailed, it doen't shift untill the red line anyway. (it's great to have access to a 2 mile long runway!)
