  1. The bulbs I am installing are brighter, sharper and better on the road for poor light and especially at night, where I do a lot of driving. It's not decorative, although the interior vanity lights and the boot light (to be done) are.
  2. Today's progress... Took off the inner boot lid cover to get to the reverse lights. Discovered the LED's that all the guides told me were for my reverse lights were actually for my rear fog lights: LED: Original bulb: Original brighter and better so back out came the LED's. Luckily the bulbs I bought for the mirror puddle lamps were 10 LED and the correct size, so in they went for the reverse lights: Originals: LED's: And at night: Then did the de-tango of the rear indicators with some chromed bulbs: Then came the next job...the rear lamp has water in it and misting, so out it came - forgot to take some before pics, but here is it almost dried out: Issue was the top edge bonding was no longer effective - here it is opened up, before I run multiple lines of super glue down it (and one run inside!!!): Should, hopefully, be no more water getting inside now! Pic of the LED sidelights: Pic of everything on - main beam, full beam, foglight etc: New LED's for the vanity lights:
  3. Info from Confused.com email the other day said all insurance prices have gone up by an average of 18% over the last year :( My renewal is due very shortly - currently with Elephant.
  4. Another option - if the TPMS warning is simply a light, can the bulb be removed from the dash? I believe all November 2012 onwards cars (maybe 2014) need to have TPMS or equivalent fitted by law now, and it's also now an MOT failure if a warning light shows, so it will need sorted either way.
  5. Try these guys - they can actually clone your existing TPMS valves which means they can simply be fitted without even needing to get Lexus to code them. However, you need the original valve codes (which I assume you can't get). Here is my email last week to/from them (MUCH cheaper than Lexus). I'd imagine standard ones that would need to be coded by Lexus may be even cheaper. Hello Brian, For us to clone your original sensors we would need the ID numbers off your original sensors. These are printed on the sensor themselves and each sensor has an individual ID number. This would mean you have to remove the tyre and retrieve the ID numbers. These would be priced at £216inc VAT & Delivery Any questions don’t hesitate to ask Kind Regards Josh Palmer UK Tel: 01254 301021 International: +441254 301021 Web: www.tpmswarehouse.co.uk TPMS Warehouse - The UK's leading supplier of TPMS Sensors An ACD of Lancashire Company
  6. Hi Bod, It was in with the detailer and it was a 2 stage correction, plus all the usual proper prep, cleaning, de-tar & fallout remover, clay-bar, then 2 passes of machine polishing. Was with them for 3 days so a lot of work. It was £250 for the initial stage 1 machine polish, and they charged an extra £50 for the extra day of machine work. £300 all in.
  7. Well, managed to get some work done on the lights today, between chasing the 4 year old around - so not done anywhere near as much as planned. Plan was to do: HB4 LED's into fog lights HB3 Osram upgrades into main beam LED's into side lights Chrome indicators into front lights Here are all the bulbs set out: After taking the engine covers off, quick brush of some dust with detailing brush and a wipe, out came the Kurust and touch up and attacked every bolt, bracket, hole or whatever I could find that had any trace of rust... I keep the car well detailed and the engine bay is no exception! Indicator bulbs first: Installed and working: Osram main beam bulbs to go in: After much mauling around - no chance - the clips on the frames (2 big and 1 small lug) are the other way around so the wiring etc hits the inside of the light frame :( First fail! LED sidelights - issue being the standard bulb goes all the way into the holder, LED is too big!!! Second fail!! However, a bit of mauling about (some slight plastic being removed) and also used the smaller LED's I bought for the mirror puddle lamps and sorted! Old bulb: New LED: Onto the fog lights. Can either take off the under trays ( a gazillion bolts) or can remove the arch liner bolts etc - not many need to come off as I figured out as can get my hand in OK (and have already had these bolts off several times already! Next issue came - fail three!!!! The LED HB4's I bought - the polarity is the other way around, as Lexus/Toyota for some reason use + & - the opposite way around from everyone else! Can't reverse them as the HB4 have a locking clip mount and won't go... However - currently useless Osrams HB3's to the rescue - these fit fine (although at £20+ a pair are pricey for fog light bulbs!): Old bulb (although on a clearer lense - I need to polish both of these A LOT!): New bulb (but very marked/cloudy lense - noticeably brighter): Next up - some nighttime shots of all the light combinations. After some research I have a plan now too: I am going to clip one of the bigger lugs on the Osram HB3's (currently in my fog lights) and they should then lock in the correct position I need to allow me to use them for my main beam (as planned). I intend to them do something similar with my HB4 LED foglight bulbs - they have a slot inside them and a clip to lock them in but I am going to cut the slot and the lock and they will mount up firm (but not 100% lock) for my fog lights to become LED's - a job for when I can grab half an hour to get the main beams apart, and get the arch liners open and into the fog lights (as well as adapt the bulbs). That's the plan. Then onto the rear - chrome indicator bulbs and LED's into my reverse lights (the other bulbs are all LED). Then I'll have a look at the puddle lamps on the mirrors for LED fitment (if not already LED).
  8. A pity - hopefully you get it sorted and PLEASE post how/what/where and that could also help others in future.
  9. I find the HID's superb - and I have had several cars with HID's. The bulbs degrade over time apparently so maybe time for some new D4S bulbs?
  10. http://www.edinburgh.lexus.co.uk/?ac=C3257&mc=SEM2010LMA22&gclid=CImpo5-Ig88CFSIz0wod_QwFyA&dclid=CNP865-Ig88CFQh12wodQ5AG-A
  11. The other angle worth going on is that it was kept off the road for a bit, so has not needed a service etc...
  12. Absolutely worth trying, or try another dealer if one other locally. My local dealer is great- had my headlight assembly, headlight ECU and event the bulb replaced under extended warranty today - and mine is 10 in November! Even though it was a leaking seal (that's been like that obviously a while, no issues. £937 saved!
  13. If it had it's Hybrid Battery Check, get it into Lexus - it's covered for a year from the date of that check, up to it's 10th birthday I believe.
  14. You can pay the customs charge online and they will then deliver it - it does delay it somewhat as they seem to be in no hurry to get stuff to you - and the letter with the charge even has the cheek to come second class! Might be worth haggling a bit on the £1000 low mile UK one and get that down a bit - or get the Lithuanian one down towards £700. At £850, you'll be around £1040+ with the charges.
  15. Indeed it would - you pay VAT plus an import charge and an £8 parcel force handling charge for anything over £16 (£32 for a gift) technically - sometimes gets hit and other times missed. The shipping would also be a bit hefty (they use DPD to ship anytime I have bought from them). There may be some cars at breakers in the UK - not sure the best way to find them, but some must get scrapped and written off...
  16. The bulbs I have used for the front AND rear of the car are chrome finished standard bulbs that flash orange but look invisible when looking at the actual lights (switched off). I think LED's would cause the issue you mention, unless you bought Canbus Error Free ones (which are the ones I have bought for the other lights).
  17. I am about to do all of this, this weekend, after Lexus fir a new complete headlamp/ballast etc tomorrow. Will post up how I get on. :)
  18. I can vouch for the breakers in Lithuania as I have had a good few bits from them, including a boot trim, carpet mats and was looking at a full headlight assembly. Quick delivery, well packaged, and good communications. The one I used was DTV but there is also one called GTV. DTV tended to be cheaper, sent good pictures of the parts and in the car they came from (all UK cars). Brian.
  19. Cheers. Will have a look this weekend when I pull the rear lights out anyway to clean. Pretty sure the tail lights are LED's but the indicators are standard bulbs. Think the reverse bulbs were too (quite a few threads on upgrading these to LED's and being much better at night and for the reversing camera).
  20. Thanks John - will check that out. I can probably use those bulbs for something else. Forgot about the interior vanity bulbs - will get them sorted too (any idea what bulb they take?) Are the fog lights and the reverse lights LED's too? The indicators are definitely standard bulbs as I have already changed them.
  21. I bought a set from Lexus a few weeks ago - I think they were £167 all in after discount, including all the parts :) They ordered them in for me.
  22. Going to replace all my other bulbs this weekend, once the new headlight is in on Friday (and eventually the HID bulb when it goes on the drivers side, which Lexus are not touching). This includes: Fog lights to HB4 LED Side lights (front) to LED Main beam to HB3 Osram Ultimate upgrades Reversing bulbs to LED Rear indicators to chromed yellow bulbs Puddle lamps on mirrors to LED Already done the front yellow indicator bulbs. Should brighten & modernise it all up :)
  23. I had my headlight bulbs in and out several times during the week, as one side was completely dead (going in on Friday for a new headlamp, ballast and bulb & fitting - £937 - luckily warranty covering it). I managed to swap my left & right bulbs back and forth twice, and changed both my front indicator bulbs to chrome ones, all in less than 15 minutes from opening the bonnet, taking off the engine bay covers, moving the washing inlet (10mm socket) and then putting back together. Nobody needs to pay Lexus to change the bulbs - it's a 10 minute job once you know how. Screw off the plastic cap, undo the spring clip (same as every other car headlight), take out bulb, clip spring back in, screw on cap - job done. On the passenger side you need to undo 1 bolt, but otherwise the same. I managed to find a pair of the OEM Phillips ones for £125 delivered online, but could by Osram's and a few other makes for about £35/£40 a piece. Lexus quoted me £69 + VAT for the bulb alone.
