  1. It's one of those programs that I always seem to flick to and see. Got quite into it!! Unfortunately missed Sunday's one - but think it's quite a good series!!!
  2. see this thread here and this thread here on pistonheads The first one was an LOC discussion on such high speeds from a few months ago Brings up some very different points of view on such a hot topic !!!
  3. That's kind....thank you :) Glad I can help!! Oh.....Loz, also forgot to mention. RoSPA (Royal Society for Prevention of Accidents) also do a similar to IAM style course. This would be very beneficial to do aswell. Also - if you're thinking of taking VERY high class people, a minimum std required would be escape/pursuit driving/skid control courses etc. One thing I've learnt is that it's all well and good being able to control the car, drive it fast - but if you dont have any qualifications, then you won't get used (apparently it's quite brutal out there!!!!!)
  4. Loz, I've been entertaining similar sorts of ideas for a while now. To get into chauffeuring, WITHOUT DOUBT....you will need to pass the IAM (Institute of Advanced Motoring) Certificate. All chauffeurs advertise when they have it, consequently those who don't won't get used. Also, you'll need to take some kind of course. There are many out there (PM me if you want me to point you to some websites). The important thing to remember is that the sort of market you are aiming for (the upper class market) will have used chauffeurs before, and so they expect certain things as standard. You really need to learn what these "certain things" are. Simple things like if you hold your hand out for a lady to help her out the car, you must always turn your head towards the front of the car over the door (so you dont look up her skirt......or rather, so she does not feel intimidated). I used this as an example, but the point I'm trying to get across is that little things like that will be expected AS A MINIMUM with the sort of clientel you're after. So......to re-cap....... Get IAM Certificate (easy enough) Do recognised Chauffeur Training course (some places do "taster" days to see if you'll like it) And then take it from there. Don't go buying an LS430 just yet, as one thing you may come to realise is the hours will be terrible and you may not like it. You'll be taking people to Operas, meetings, theatre, dinner.......all these things that normally happen OUTSIDE a normal 9-5 job. Hope that's all been of help Tony
  5. No, we haven't tried putting a UK disk. To be honest, we don't even know where to get a UK disc !? Any other suggestions welcome Ta
  6. Happy Birthday !! Enjoy ! (incidentally - you share you birthday with my mum!)
  7. Good friend of mine has a Toyota Lancruiser recently imported from Japan. It has Japanese sat nav (all the menu's etc are in Japanese) and he wants it changing to UK/ European version. A couple of companies he has phoned have spoken of £1800 !!He'd be better of getting an Ipaq based system than simply CHANGING the current one at that price!!! He hasn't yet rung toyota, but unsure of how useful they'd be anyway. My question is - does anyone know anything, have any ideas, or experienced this sort of thing before ? Any help, comments, suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all Tony
  8. Test your curiosity - I did. I didn't want to have utter faith in them till i tried them - so a mate of mine stood behind the car and walked slowly towards it - we measured him randomly and the sensors were near enough perfect, so I was happy in trusting it after that point!!!
  9. Yup, As all have said above. I painted mine - got spray can and lacquer from lexus dealer. you can spray it - couple of thin coats will do the trick, then a coat of lacquer and it will be fine. Don't put it on too thick though - it won't pick up anything and you'll hear a bang next time you reverse!
  10. Steve's "friend" that he brought with him on Saturday to the karting (you've all seen the thread, you know everyone's talking about her) ?
  11. Loz, Good on you matey - some decisivness. 6th is better for me. I reckon we'll wait for Ryan to post here in agreement with the leeds location, and then i'll get a post going asking for availability. :zee: respect to the 'fro :zee:
  12. Irishman walks into bar with roll of tarmac under his arm says "a pint please, and one for the road"
  13. A red bull walks into a bar, the barman says "here....we've got a drink named after you" the red bull says "have you? but my name's Eric!?!?!" :zee:
  14. Hey......note for southerners..... how bout we do a "rolling convoy"......by this I mean Steve drives to my house, I drive me and Steve to JMRussel's, JMRussel drives me and Steve upwards etc..........that way ever person only puts a couple of hundred miles on their car (and consequently couple hundred miles of petrol) rather than 500+ Plus also, JMRussel has a rather nice LS :) :) Seriously though, I think that could work ok - because down here we live quite a way from one another so car sharing will have to be thought about!!! (Not necessarily those names, in that order, but you get the idea).
  15. I wonder why he's kept the std side repeeaters in aswell? Perhaps, like on the merc's, he could blend over the std repeaters !? Would give it a nice smooth look
  16. google powers alot of yahoo searches i think doesn't it ? if it's not in one of yahoo's catergories then i think it's all google powered
  17. I knew Loz put superglue on the inside of your one!!! power to the 'fro!!!!! ps....that bloke opposite looks like he's trying real hard not to wet himself with laughter!! :zee: :zee: :zee: :zee: :zee:
  18. As mentioned above, the car will just be dropping out, or will have already dropped, out of warranty. If you bought via a Lexus dealer you'd get 1yr dealer warranty (better than factory warranty) and refurbed alloys etc etc. On lexus.co.uk there's a 99T (1yr older than one you mention) with 61k for £12,995. Remember this will come with full yrs warranty, refurbed wheels etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. You'd be able to get that for £12.5k if you push properly......so looking at it from afar, the non-lexus dealer one for 12k (rock bottom price as you've said) or 12.5k for one from Lexus. Specifically for a car from a non-lexus dealer, I think that is a LITTLE high, but maybe not quite as much as people suggest above. Hope that's of help to you / your mate
  19. J 46 of the M1 !?!?!? I join at J1, and it takes me 1 1/2hr to get there. Fair enough tho guys......you did travel a long ol' way to get there on Saturday, so it is only fair. I'd be staying over the night though I think!
  20. Yup !!! On a serious note though......what sort of distance is the Loughborough one from you guys ? I mean time wise.
  21. I like the look of that!! Especially that bridge-over-bit-thingy!!!!
