  1. Mike - I totally agree with you that £100 for a CD is a bit of a rip off especially given that you can buy much better products such as a Garmin and Tom Tom and as you rightly say, the maps would have been 5 years out of date but my car still had the original 1998 CD map. The main reason I bought the CD was that I wanted to keep the car as original as possible plus I wanted my car to stand out a bit more as I was looking to sell the car on too so anything to make my car stand out a bit more was a good thing. The maps were without question a big step forward in terms of being more up-to-date with new roads and streets, etc. it still had the same types of POIs too. and as I do a lot of driving up & down the UK, I prefer to use the built-in system rather than an aftermarket product. For my Audi A8, Audi UK wanted £200 for an updated DVD for the Navigation but after hunting around for alternative DVDs, I found another DVD for £40. Other than eBay, I haven't found updated Navigation CDs for sale for Lexus
  2. Sorry to hear you've missed out but I'm sure the next one you find will be as good or better. Keep a look out on the usual sites like Autotrader and eBay - bound to be another good one up for sale
  3. I've recently needed to source some parts for my facelift LS430 and I used the following breakers yards websites to place my enquiries www.1stchoice.co.uk www.247spares.co.uk www.breakeryard.com Good luck with the Land Cruiser parts - I'll be interested to hear whether these have worked. I paid £375 for a used steering column rather than just replacing the defective motors and a couple of hours labour from my local garage. Not cheap but it's done the job.
  4. I have heard about Terraclean and recall seeing it featured on Wheeler Dealers when the team were trying to improve the emissions and mpg from a Jag XK. I thought this product / service was generally aimed a older big petrol engined cars with V8 or V12 engines. I can't say I have heard of anyone trying it on an RX400h
  5. Nice looking car Jonathan. I still miss my LS400 which I sold last year but I am back in the fold with my LS430. Like any used car, the main thing to check is the overall condition of the bodywork and the alloy wheels, especially Lexus alloys as they often seem to suffer corrosion or peeling paint (mentioned by another member too). I'd make sure that all the electrics work and that you try every button including the electric steering adjustment, electric seats, heated seat functions and the sunroof. Lexus parts are not the cheapest but thankfully these 400s are super reliable so it's rare for things to break or to stop working for no reason. These 7 hole alloys are becoming very hard to find - I sold a brand new set on a well known auction site a few months ago and I was very surprised by the level of interest I got. Good luck and I hope you get to buy this
  6. Reluctantly, I have taken my car to Lexus as 2 of my specialist garages have struggled to get this sorted out. 1 of my garages did say that the Lexus dealers have been really helpful with him & even talked him through a recalibration process but no success. The latest is that Lexus are insisting that 2 sensors at the front of my car need to be replaced before they can try the recalibration so I'm now already £950 down and the car is still not yet sorted. Bitter and disappointing pill for me to swallow to say the least. I really want the car back and to be enjoying it again.
  7. When I owned my previous LS400 (Mk IV) version, there were occasions where the Sat Nav display would say 'Unable to read CD-ROM' and then when I took key out of the ignition and put key back in, it would come back to life. It sounds like ageing / temperamental electrics. You could try to source a used Nav Disc device from a breakers yard if the actual Nav Disc device in your car is no longer working but if it's the wiring from the boot to the dashboard, that will be more tricky and time-consuming to fix. My car had the original 1998 CD Rom and I bought the 2007 CD Rom from Lexus for £100 in 2012 (I didn't want to risk buying something non-genuine) and it made such a difference to the car. Lexus do not issue updated CD Roms updated beyond 2007.
  8. Hello. Hope all is well ? Just seen your post on the steering column motors. I recently bought a used LS430 and I had to get my steering column sorted out as it wouldn't adjust. Despite looking at replacing motors only, after some trial and error and reading through various posts i sourced a replacement used steering column and replaced this. There are 2 motors that could need replacing and when you cost up these (even used ones), it's not much cheaper than the entire column. I did read that the Land Cruiser parts would also work but I wasn't keen to chance this. In reference to the reversing camera, I have been told by a couple of dealers that the cameras themselves don't usually fail but it's the wiring to them - the problem is the labour involved in diagnosing and replacing. There are some breakers yards who actually buy fully working cars and break them as they can / do make more profit so I am sure if you do some searches on the various online breakers, you can source the parts you need. Good luck
  9. The advice I have always been given by my Lexus dealer is that there is no fixed interval for changing this. They inspect it at every major service for condition. Whilst I know fluids have come on leaps and bounds over the years, they will ultimately degrade over time. For what it's worth, I ran my LS400 for over 13 years and 230k miles and the ATF was only changed once. Cost was around £150 including the fluid.
  10. I fitted Falken FK451s onto my LS400 for a number of years and found them to be the best tyres for me - great grip in both wet & dry, great durability for my regular trips up and down the UK and great value too. My LS430 is fitted with Pirelli P6000s which are doing a great job and seem good in both wet & dry conditions. The dilemma we all often face with tyres is trying to get the best ones but to pay reasonable money for them. I seem to find that tyre prices seem to vary week to week with dealers. Good luck
  11. Fingers crossed I'll have my 430 back in full working order - the main appeal of it was the colour combo, condition and the low mileage. Thanks again for the advice - will keep you posted once I hear back from Lexus on the verdict and the dreaded cost !
  12. Thanks for this advice Mark - I'll ask my garage to check this. I am pretty sure though that when I selected the 'Hi' option using the Sport button that nothing happened. My car is the facelift version on a '53' plate and it's only done 46k miles which is barely run in. My previous LS400 had done 230k miles when I sold it last year - sometimes I do wish I'd held onto it but I wanted to run and enjoy an LS430 for a while
  13. Thanks for your post Mark. My local garage who are very good and have done lots of work for me on various cars are annoyed that they can't seem to fix this issue. They have checked and swapped around a number of the sensors which all work fine, they have re-checked that voltages are all correct Interesting that you say your front has always sat 1 inch higher. I did try to change the Hi / Low setting using the Sports button and it didn't appear to make any difference. The garage had to replace a rear suspension bracket as this side moved down but not up, they cleared the error codes and tested it and it all worked fine. Within 5 minutes of me taking it out for a drive the next day, the VSC warning lights came back on and the car didn't appear to sit right. Very annoying and not what I had expected of my car but I hope to get it fixed and without too big a bill for it
  14. Reluctantly, I have decided to drop my car into a Lexus dealer to investigate. I'm disappointed to have this issue on my vehicle especially given that the vehicle has done less than 50k miles. I will await news from them but one way or another I have to get this issue sorted out as I can't really drive and enjoy the car.
  15. Personally, when it comes to suspension I am not keen on changing my vehicle to anything non-standard Without seeing feedback or knowing whether other people have done this kind of change, I wouldn't want to risk trying something like this. It's a lot of money but admittedly it means you don't get the complications which the Lexus Air suspension comes with.
  16. Welcome to the Lexus fold - here's to hoping you enjoy your car as much as other owners
  17. I am aware that there are a lot of topics and posts on LS430 air suspension issues. My local garage have recently replaced a defective part on the rear suspension as this was not rising. They have confirmed that all of the sensors and the relevant suspension parts are going up and down but the car is now sitting high on the front side. The rear suspension is sitting correctly with the front too high and they cannot work out what the problem is Any ideas please fellow club members on this one ?
  18. Sounds like I have been lucky recently based on these posts - I've had to wait 2 weeks for a new V5 to come through on 2 of my vehicles, 1 being a new car purchase from a dealer and the other being a change of number plates. I have been told that typically they are taking 4 weeks to turn around forms now. Anything longer and I'd be on the phone to them
  19. Nice looking LS400 and the 17" DHP alloys really make a difference. The alloys themselves are becoming rarer by the week - I sold my previous LS400 last year and I still had the original 16" alloys and a set of the 17" DHP alloys in my garage which I sold this year for some useful money. Good luck with this one
  20. Sorry to hear about your medical news and like everyone else here, we all wish you a speedy recovery As for the car, the heart might say keep it but I would go with the head and sell it - cars like this need to be used and driven. They don't like being sat around for long periods of time and even siting around doing nothing, the car will still depreciate. Good luck and all the best to you
  21. Class - coming from an idiot who doesn't like others expressing their opinions, are you having a laugh ? Do me a favour and shut your own mouth unless you have something useful to say as insulting and having a go at other members on this forum isn't acceptable by anyone - me included ! If you don't like people's opinions, DON'T EVER BOTHER COMMENTING and keep your opinions to yourself.
  22. The only rubbish coming from you is that you don't like other people expressing their opinions - this is a free democracy the last time I checked. You are the one who needs to think before he speaks as looking at this particular topic, you are getting a few people's backs up for no good reason. In case you haven't realised, you have done a good job getting me fired up just because I expressed an opinion ! Do all of us a favour and shut the **** up !
  23. This is my friggin opinion - if you don't like it, you can just ignore it ! I have no ideas why insist on having a go at me - clearly, you need to get yourself a life ! Now go do one and leave me alone. I will continue to express any opinion I have you idiot. And feel free to try reporting me if you wish too. You are the one being a total a-hole having a go at someone for expressing their view. #rantoverfornow
  24. I have expressed an opinion and nothing more. And I do not recall saying your advice was rubbish either so get over yourself and ego and stop having a pointless rant at me for no good reason. I expressed an opinion as have other people and thanks for suggesting that the recipient can decide on the value of advice given. That's SO reasonable of you ! You can take your warnings and do whatever the hell you like with them but DO NOT HAVE A GO AT ME for expressing an opinion !
  25. You started this debate and rant at me because I expressed an opinion which I am well entitled to do. If you don't like my comments, do me a favour and ignore what I say but don't have a go at me for saying what I wanted to. And just for the record, I have an LS430 now and I did own an LS400 for over 13 years ! #somepeopleneedtogetreal
