  1. I think that's a really good price for electric dampers and fitted, Mercedes air shocks are way more expensive just to buy, if you choose to run a complex car you must expect higher repair bills when parts wear out or maybe have a cheap car like a Ford Ka which is almost nothing to repair?
  2. Hi Michael, if you search back on this topic you will see all the problems I suffered when I converted a 2002 GS300, quite simply it transformed it into the world's most unreliable and often undriveable car. Complete nightmare resulting in 2 engine rebuilds with flashlube. It seems some folk get away with it but I certainly did not.
  3. Hi Keith, I got exactly this problem with my DAB aerial, can't affix to rear screen because of the rising sun blind but feel the HRW may cause reception issues when on as Graham has found. I am considering having a good quality roof aerial fitted which hopefully will also improve FM reception which has always been awfull as mine only uses the element in the rear screen as the aerial. I just use a Pure Highway in the centre armrest which is good enough for the cricket (until the Aussies remembered how to play)not sure if a dual aerial has a separate cable for DAB reception? Please keep us posted Tony
  4. Your welcome Andy, thanks for confirming problem solved, so many users here never bother so we don't know if cure found. Tony
  5. Hi Andy, sure you have not caught the security switch in the glove box and just turned it off? ( Like I did )
  6. No never, modern oils do a fantastic job with nothing added and certainly nothing in the fuel.
  7. Not necessary ! my 450h is on 190,000 never had anything but Lexus servicing and still runs like new with no faults whatsoever. Never used a drop of oil, keep your money for nice things in life, Mr Halford is doing OK!
  8. Deffo something amiss with this, mine has never blown cold in 6 years of running it. I admit not so quick to start warming in the mornings unless set to windscreen but then perfect all day. My last 2 miles home thru my village I can normally achieve on the batteries only by using cruise control set at 30 but still blowing hot air at arrival.
  9. Hi these badges are normally glued on, expert told me he warms them up using warm air then uses fishing line to separate the glue from the paint without marking it.
  10. These DPFs puzzle me ( not so difficult I know) they are designed to reduce emissions but then re generate (burn out the rubbish) to atmosphere and so surely are still polluting just at a different time? I guess its to reduce the emissions on a test and so qualify as a clean car. Seems a bit of a con to me.
  11. Loss of traction may be associated with new tyres, they have a slip coat to aid removal from the mould which needs running off before they grip the road properly, also don't forget the 450h is a very powerful and heavy car, it will try to spin the rears from a stand still in the wet.
  12. Anticipation is the key and avoid braking, be prepared and concentrate. Coast whenever possible is the hybrid way. I always use the gearbox to slow the car rather than breaking. Tried really hard once and managed to average 40MPG over 430 miles to next fillup but it was tedious! My first set of disc pads were changed at 135,000 miles and then only because the edge of friction material was cracked not worn out, I think they would still be in if not for the adaptive cruise which breaks quite hard when mugged on a motorway. I guess living in the Fenlands also helps with no hills but then I do travel all over the country.
  13. Be careful with tyre choice, mime came from Lexus on P Zeros but when worn were a real handful, I contacted the technical department at Pirelli for advice but was told in a very curt manner " these tyres are neither recommended for or tested on your car and so should not be used" That was when I decided to only use Dunlops as fitted by the manufacturer, now get 45,000 plus per set with no handling issues and 35 MPG average on every fill up.
  14. Hi John, my 450h was almost undriveable on Pirelli Zero tyres when tread levels were low, chronic tramlining but never affected steering imput, now only ever run her on Dunlop tyres. Regarding geometry most tyre companies have no listed settings for the GS450h but Lexus assure me it is the same as Gs300, seems strange given the battery load in the boot but set by them I have perfect tyre wear although on the print out it states GS300. Hope you get sorted Tony PS I think the earlier models had more toys as standard, mine wants for nothing except auto folding mirrors when locked, I hate that flip down pod every time I park.
  15. Thanks for your advice, will stick with Lexus when the dreaded time of my old 450h throwing the towel in happens, call me old fashioned but I have never bought a car without a sunroof which so few Lexus cars now have, remember the days when every Lexus in the dealership had a sunroof? May have to go to a LS600 for this but didn't really want a bigger car, hey ho not too bad a decision to make and may be some time off yet but can not extend my warranty again due to age of vehicle so like to have plan B prepared.
  16. Has anybody else noticed the Infinity G Hybrid? now been replaced by a slightly smaller model but MASSIVE depreciation, £20,000 loss in 1 year making it a very attractive used car buy with the specification Lexus used to offer and more. Same 3.5 petrol/electric hybrid but way better claimed fuel consumption, faster and lower RFL, the only down side I have spotted is the service costs with 1 at almost a grand oh and every 9,000 miles. not so good if you are high mileage but so much car for your money and no doubt very reliable to boot.
  17. I have often wondered why cars don't collect rainwater back into the screenwash tank, a simple filter to provide an almost unlimited supply of soft water. Once had a Omega which washed the headlamps every time the screen was sprayed meaning on a bad day it would run out of water quicker than fuel!
  18. Sounds good to me, I guess that is from Lexus Mk? Great honest reliable dealer, I have been under service contract with them for years finding their collect service and attitude spot on. I am much nearer to the Cambridge dealer but couldn't get on with them.
  19. Hi Ken, that's unlucky!I would be tempted to ignore it for a day or two as sometimes these lights go off if the fault was temporary. If it sent a signal it logs it as a fault so the light stays on for a wee while. Mine has done this twice over the years without going in to dealer. Don't know about disconnecting the battery to clear it but the radio deffo is not coded. Stick with it, they are brilliant but very complicated electronic devices. Regards Tony
  20. Hi Mike, I found a decent bloke in North London who only services and repairs car audio systems, repaired my Mercedes command unit in one day at reasonable price, I did notice the Lexus logo up in his workshop but he was not keen to remove the unit. If the LS is like my GS450 450 it is very easy to remove and refit audio/navigation unit( no security code). Just ask if you need his details. Regards Tony
  21. Hi Chris, I got a Pure Highway hidden in the centre box in my GS450h,omly a pain when station change is required! I bought a screen mounted proper aerial which bonds to each side of the glass and uses a steel mast of about 300mm, works quite well, couldn't fit it to rear screen as mine has a sun blind, and much better than the stick on one but I find the Lexus FM aerial all but useless and so am looking at fitting a dual powered aerial to the roof. Mine was supplied by a company called DAB on wheels, great choice but no phone advice.
  22. Hi, sounds to me your traction control is late kicking in, I have driven my GS450h for 180,000 over 5 years and have never felt more than a slight twitch through the steering as the electronics do their job in all conditions without winter tyres, even on sheet ice she has never put the tail out, only really know when it works by the yellow light flashing. I have total confidence in mine even under hard acceleration on a greasy road. I know these systems vary, I previously had a GS300 which would not allow any spirited driving before it alarmed whereas the Sportcross would almost leave me to sort it out. Only ever run Dunlop SP tyres on the Hybrid as they seem the only ones able to survive the weight of the car.
  23. Mine was a Prinns system and properly installed by the same guy who previously fitted LPG to my Omega which ran ok for 200,000 miles.
