  1. That's quite impressive, was that some seriously gentle driving as that's what it would take to get 400 miles out of my 200 auto!
  2. I've definitely heard of that happening in the past, and that's quite a coincidence! Can't remember what happened next though.......
  3. I can't remember this exactly so it might be wrong, but I believe the sensor for the remote is somewhere near the base of the windscreen on the drivers side so next time it happens try putting the key near this area. Other than that might be worth trying a battery change or spare key as a first port of call as it's the cheapest option (bear in mind your spare key may have a dying battery in it too which I discovered when doing the same test myself!)
  4. The physical lock in the door is not connected to the central locking or the alarm so that is behaving as it should. When my key battery was on its way out I was having the same problem where sometimes it would lock and sometimes it wouldn't, but it would happen in different places, not just in one spot although it could be a combination of a weak battery and some form of interference. It's never happened to me but other owners on here have complained of problems with interference so it's definitely a possibility.
  5. It could be some form of wi-fi or eletrical interference if it's just in that one location, try parking somewhere further up the road or something and see if you have the same problem. If you haven't changed the battery for a while this could be a sign it's on the way out too so that's another thing to consider as well.
  6. This sounds like a horrible situation, hope you get it sorted easily.
  7. That really is amazing, and that trade in price is horrific! Although at present it really is the best time to buy large engined cars as they're cheap as anything.
  8. Absolutely right, I think Cadillac were the first to come up with the idea. I think Mercedes have had reasonable success with the system though so not sure why Lexus haven't thought about using it, especially in the LS600h which would help it have even more impressive fuel figures.
  9. I had the same problem and it was discovered to be warped hubs - all been replaced now and it's been fine. It's a rare problem I think so may not be what you have, but something also worth looking into.
  10. £5500 for a 3 year old 7 series? That can't be right? :o
  11. Lol, only made funnier by the fact that Mercedes are the ones who brought cylinder shut down back in the modern era.
  12. I love the new LFA style dash, makes it feel more special - and there's a digital speed readout in the rev counter I believe so there's 2 ways to check your speed :)
  13. I've read in the past that the rain sensor can come away from the screen and then it doesn't work - make sure it's correctly in place.
  14. If you have working keys you can program them yourself, there's a guide on here somewhere on how to do it. Have you tried changing the battery in the old key? It can start the engine so the chip in it is still programmed as far as deactivating the immobiliser.......
  15. Does the LS430 have a rain sensor? Otherwise does it not have a collar on the wiper stalk that you can turn to change the timing of the intermittent wipe?
  16. Is that a brand new car? Wouldn't be happy at all, don't think I've ever heard of something like that - are they proper deep scratches or just more like swirl marks?
  17. Looking at the thread you linked to I don't think there will be an issue with swapping the barrel, the only issue will be with programming the keys. Do you have a working master key for both cars? When you say the chip is destroyed, does the key not work any more? If so you should be able to use the old key to program the new one and then it should all work fine. Actually ACLex makes a good point, you won't even need to program the key if you can just swap the electronics over (assuming it's not broken)
  18. The security light shows that the engine immobiliser is on, not the alarm. If you are locking the car with the key and not the remote, the alarm will be off. Can't help with regard to swapping the barrel unfortunately, but I'm sure someone will be able to help you soon.
  19. You'll need an OBD2 reader to read the fault codes but I think you can buy them for reasonable money.
  20. It's just behind the glovebox to the left - another easy way to check is if the rear speakers on the rear shelf have the surround with "Lexus" on them (viewing from the rear) then you have the 8 speaker amplified system.
  21. Just noticed that you mentioned it's only happened once so it can't be happening everytime :) Lol, at least it's only Volvos, I sometimes get the feeling my car is invisible with the number of morons that pull out in front of me usually doing a stupidly low speed (why don't people realise you accelerate before changing lanes rather than after you change lanes)
  22. That doesn't sound great, is that in instances the gap is particularly tight or does it do that every time? If so seems like a bit of an overreaction!
  23. The box is fine in that it's very smooth and kicks down readily enough. The complaints are that the 4 speed box makes the car quite slow and it's not great on fuel either (I average about 23mpg). As a second hand buy I think the IS300 makes a bit more sense if your budget stretches to one, as there isn't much in it on fuel economy but it's going to be a better car all round. Having said that I'm very happy with my auto, take one for a test drive and see what you think.
  24. Don't have any personal experience of it but I think that was the pre-crash system thinking that you were in danger of hitting something - bizarre that it was set off by a car on the other side of the road!
  25. Have you tried Lexus Edgware Road by any chance? Not that long ago did some purely speculative looking and they offered me double what Woodford did for my car - admittedly a relatively old IS200 but still a surprising difference. Have to agree about the IS250C, very underpowered, how the decision not to bring the IS350C was reached I have no idea (especially at the prices they are trying to charge). I'm also not hugely keen on the way it looks, but obviously that's more of a personal preference. I fully understand the large engined cars taking a big hit, but the GS450h is reasonably ok in terms of running costs so I'm surprised it's so bad, probably a combination of the lack of boot space and the GS is due for replacement next year.
