  1. That's the same as remote start, without the convenience of starting remotely. Also there is the added inconvenience that Lexus actually make an OEM remote start kit, but not what you've just described. I don't get why we're going round in circles here :duh:
  2. Just looked that up and honestly can't remember even asking for that Seems there is a bit of history, just that it got forgotten with how good the service dept is :winky:
  3. Yeah it is annoying that fundamental things like folding mirrors are only on the top model. Same way I think it's fine the LED headlamps are on the top one, but they could offer normal xenons on the middle model instead of just halogens.
  4. That's good to hear, haven't seen one in the flesh but from the pics the interior does look like a nice place to be. It's the exterior that I have the main problem with (looks too much like an Auris) and also that there could have been a more powerful version with maybe the drivetrain out of the HS250h.
  5. Might be a good idea to get the OEM Lexus parking sensor kit off ebay (it's much cheaper on there) and get an auto-electrician to fit. While expensive, I can vouch for the quality of AutoAudio's work, they are brilliant.
  6. That made me laugh, did you just liken remote engine start to the electric chair? And I'm the one talking nonsense :) Fair enough each to their own of course. The discussion of whether something is "needed" is a massive can of worms. Anyone could argue you don't need electric/heated/memory seats, satnav, remote central locking, auto headlights, etc etc but I like having all of them. What defines whether you need something or not? Your story about why you don't need remote start (spray de-icer, etc) only goes to prove that remote start can make one thing just a little bit easier.
  7. This is getting crazy though, I'd be inclined to reject the car and get a refund at this point. Or use that to get some free stuff. Yeah it was Woodford, do they have a reputation for the sales side being quite bad then? Will have to go back to Edgware Road then if I ever decide to buy another Lexus :)
  8. I'm pretty sure that car is Caspian Sky, one of my favourite colours too :)
  9. I'm confused by your attitude to this, the technology exists (at quite reasonable cost) to alleviate this problem without the "workaround" you posted. It is used successfully in many parts of the world to great effect. I'm not sure why so many seem to think technological advancement is a bad thing - I assume you don't use satnav either? I got around fine with maps before it came about, but now I prefer to use the nav - I don't need to but it's much easier. It's the same with remote start, I honestly can't believe some of the responses in this thread.
  10. I think you have to pay all of it, I've had a similar charge from Royal Mail before - it's annoying but it's your responsibility in my understanding.
  11. Should still be able to get it from a Lexus dealer, or send ACLex on here a PM - he's at a dealer and can offer healthy discounts :)
  12. When I had mine done in 2008 the service schedule (which was revised March 2007) still said 6 yrs or 100k. Doesn't matter though as Lexus have changed the criteria.
  13. Too much conflicting info on this, due to premature wear Lexus changed the cambelt change to 6 yrs or 60k. The 6 year part has never changed though so given that your car is 6 years old it needs a replacement regardless. However as quoted my 60k cambelt service cost around £650 too from Lexus Woodford so I'd try a few other dealers or haggle a bit as they'll come down :)
  14. Ahh, in that case send Steve a PM, he'll sort it out for you. Welcome back and hope things are going well with the new GS!
  15. If I was in your position I'd be quite irritated by now so I commend your overall calmness! I know Lexus Woodford very well, and this is entirely out of character as far as my personal experience would suggest. It might be worth speaking to James Cook who is the service manager, he has helped me out so many times it's ridiculous but he's so helpful and I'm sure he'll be able to assist in either getting you the right manuals or pushing whoever is required to make it happen. Do you mind telling me who you've been dealing with so far just for future reference in case I decide to buy a car from them? Feel free to PM if you would prefer, just sounds that whoever you've been dealing with might be worth avoiding.
  16. You need to be a Gold member to sell anything on here, send Steve a PM for assistance :)
  17. This doesn't apply with remote start, if the locks, windows, etc are tampered with the engine will cut out straight away. And as above the car cannot be driven away without the key present. There could not have been similar thefts as it is impossible - I think you're confusing the issue of remote start with people that just start their cars, leave the keys in the car and then go back inside, which of course is quite stupid :) This is for the new RX, but I'm impressed it only costs $375! LINK
  18. It's on the main forum page, on the right hand side there's a "watched content" section :)
  19. In my opinion insurers take a pretty idiotic view on remote start, it's not the same as starting your car on the drive and then going back inside and I think it's laughable to even mention the two in the same sentence. The whole point in remote start is that the car is still locked and the alarm is armed - if any sort of break in occurs the engine dies, the car cannot be moved without the key in place. I haven't come across any instances of the remote start feature being installed in UK cars myself, because the dealers probably wouldn't help and I don't know how insurance companies would react to it (although I do think most wouldn't allow it). I'd recommend speaking to your insurer before buying anything, and might be worth having a look on the US forums about this as I think it's an actual option over there.
  20. Glad it's sorted, but it's a shame you had to go through all that. Don't have much experience with sales but their service department has looked after my car for the last 6 or so years and they have been faultless, their customer service is excellent - it really is the best service I've ever come across. I'd recommend using them for servicing if it isn't too far from you, the service manager James is fantastic. Personally I would have sent it back to sort out that overspray as well, it would seriously bug me so I'd want it removed, but understand that if it's a bit of a distance then it might be a bit of a hassle.
  21. This sounds a horrible experience and I agree with everyone that it is totally unacceptable. Did you buy from Lexus Woodford?
  22. Good point, sorry wasn't thinking properly - although the worst case would be to leave the unit behind the headunit (there is room to the side) and run a USB cable to the glovebox, although this would block access to the SD slot Oh in that case nevermind, my aux one in any case was not long enough for me to be able to put the grom unit in the glovebox
  23. Hi and welcome to LOC :) There aren't really many issues as others have said, cambelt is 60k or 6 years. The CD players are prone to failure, so check it's working or factor in the cost of replacement when buying the car. As already mentioned the Sport is only a manual, so if you want a Sport you can't have an auto. I have an auto and it's fine, the gearbox is a good one and it's happy to kick down when required, changes are smooth and there's no lag. However the auto is worse on fuel, and is a fair bit slower than the manual, so I'd recommend testing both if you are unsure and see which you prefer. I average about 23-24mpg out of my auto, getting any better out of it would require some careful driving.
  24. The grom cable isn't long enough to reach the glovebox, but not sure about the xcarlink one. However if it's USB, could you just get an extension cable?
