  1. I know what you mean, that's why I thought I had miscalculated at first. I put fuel in when the needle was on the 1/4 mark, I put £41 in which took the gauge upto just under the full mark, reset the trip to 0 and when the needle reached the 1/4 again I had done 412 miles. I also calculated it at the approximate mid point and that gave 37 mpg. I must admit I does sound very high. I'll shall keep doing it and see what I get. Humm, not the most accurate way of doing the test i dont think. what you should do is - fill the tank to the brim - reset your trip counter - drive around - go back to the pump - fill the tank up to the brim again.... ....and however many ltrs went in, work it out with the number of miles on your counter, never having to worry about the needle position, which i beleive we have all found to be inaccurate. give that a go next week, and report back. either way, your doing a great job with your mpg, easily one of the most econimical IS's. 2. im having the same problem... at least i think i am... it starts to squeak at around 55mph+ i read this post this morning and on my drive back home i dropped the clutch to see if the squeaking would stop when i was doing around 60mph on a country road, but the mouse noises were still going. if it was the clutch release bearing would'nt the squeaking stop? anything else it might? im tempted to say that its coming from the front driver side wheel, but i say this as its the only window i can listen out from when driving lol
  3. thats outstanding... how on earth did you manage it? you must have been very very froogle. 50mph/6th gear lane 1 motorway driving?
  4. stick a flat head screw driver in the gap where all the white corrosion is, and pry it off.... i dont think it will break, it seemed very tough when i got mine out... keep at it... take it to your garage if it gets too messy. good luck mate
  5. i had the same problem, took me ages to break it free.. corroded all over. you just need to be forceful wth it, keep at it mate. good luck
  6. just looks like a silver one with brake dust tbh! mine looks like that now, not washed it in 600miles. but thats just personal preference Good luck
  7. but a note to add to that.. you get 153bhp at around 6krpm, and lets be honest, who drives around all day at near red line?
  8. wow!.... first ive seen of this thread, and ive just been through the 8 pages, admitadly, i didnt read half of it, im at work :P but the pictures of the progress is great. well done mate, a cracking project.
  9. T plate, 92k, serviced at all intervals bar one [80k] last serviced at 91k costing £600, including belt. owner 1: motorway miles owner 2: heavy city usage. owner 3: me, motorway miles
  10. yep tank is 70ltrs... light comes on when you're on your last 10ltrs. the needle positions sounds a little off as 45ltrs would be a couple of notches past half way, not really near the E.... having said that, mine is completely out, its about 1/4 tank delayed. [as in, it would read half tank, i would have only a 1/4 in it]. you should be very pleased with 33mpg too.. alot struggle to get that, good work.
  11. let us know how you get on.. that would be an interesting mod.
  12. check the Buy & Sell forum, breakers on ebay, or your local scrap yard. good luck.
  13. if it helps at all, i have 6 discs inside, and it thinks it has none! there are a couple of chaps on here that know a few people that can fix it for you, they will be round soon enough i reckon.
  14. ball park figure, throwing it out there... i reckon you'll get around £6k
  15. may be a silly suggestion, but have you check that your tank isnt leaking? pinhole dripping fuel?
  16. i have an older model, SE, and they are on all the time and hot... its funny, when i got to a car wash, and the little polish chap comes to wipes the mirrors and wonders why all the water he splashed on there has evaporated :P
  17. Its advised to get it done at 60k, but i think that that is overkill.. the belt will go for much longer. i changed mine only recently, im on 92k 8yrs, and there was still about 4k left in it [so my garage says] But like Rikos says its all about piece of mind.
  18. lol, he obviously doesnt use his boot to carry the tesco shopping!
  19. check this site out guys.... a little worrying how much mpg these guys are getting... one chap on there hit 46mpg... im struggling to get it to 30mpg. check it out.. http://www.spritmonitor.de/en/overview/26-...200.html?sort=1 my car @ http://www.spritmonitor.de/en/detail/183037.html
  20. Defo not sure about the bootlid, the whole beauty of the rear end is the oversized plate and ball foglights.. coupled with the, once OTT, rear clusters made the IS what it is. but what ever floats your boat. door strips is a good one though, like it... nice mod :)
  21. I can do £30, but when i checked for the ELM reader, they were selling for £99, thought it was a bit steep tbh.. ill have another bash at it. cheers guys!
  22. Hey guys... Has anyone got an OBD2 Reader that i can use on my IS to check for any faults. Anyone near West london, Northampton or Milton Keynes? Cheers
  23. im going to take a sub par educated guess here and say that fixing the geo will reduce your mpg. more of the tyre on the road means it has more grip, which i guess in turn means more effort to roll it. i think hot weather has something to do with economy... ive had mine for 4months now, and i was used to getting 400miles out of 60ltrs [light comes on for last 10ltrs], but the last 2 tank fulls, im getting only 320ish... ive lost nearly 20% in mpg. odd really!
  24. yeah, i think only gold members can attach and view images... stick it on a free online host. imageshack.us
