  8. The IS200 has to be about the easiest car in the world to drive hard, and given the limited power, like its German competitors, really flatters drivers who often believe that at the limit they can detect and control better than TRC. The designers know for certain that such people are rare and exceptional because the speeds etc. for the various conditions are so high that the limit is very sudden. 99.9% of drivers have no hope of correcting as well or as fast as TRC, so something horrible is going to happen. What is really needed is even better TRC. Otherwise heaven help us all if such drivers ever get a powerful car. On the IS200, if the TRC light stays out, it isn't doing anything and it doesn't affect the throttle response except on "Snow" - so it is the same as being off anyway except in some drivers' minds. If it flicks on briefly, it isn't doing much or for long so won't slow you down, but might help you to stay pointing the right way. If it stays on, it teaches you that the car is beyond the point where the majority can cope; and unless there is a lot of space around, an accident is likely. To learn to drive nearly as well as TRC will let you, you need plenty of practice in wide open spaces plus someone elses' car to wreck. To practice on the open roads is all most people can manage and we can't afford the carnage. This all fairly obvious and raises the question: Should the driving test include an IQ test? :tsktsk: This is a really good reply. I'm not blowing my trumpet as an Advanced Driver (IAM member), but it clearly says common sense, safety and driving within the ability of the car, the driver and weather and road conditions. Maybe some would like to try some research and find the IAM system of car control??? Anyway, that apart, we buy cars to enjoy them, so, if yer want sto be a bit silly, go find a track or old airfield and have some fun..... Col.. :winky: :winky:
  9. Ormi is in Edinburgh as far as I know Kam. He gives me great advice, but, when I pass it on, they think i'm being ar@e methinks. Edinburgh is around 100 miles from me, and, I wouldn't mind travelling. Only thing is, if the work was going to take a couple of days, then I'm feked. I don't mind spending money on the love of my life (my Lexus.. lol), but they don't seem too interested now in Aberdeen. Must admit though, they did run me back home and then pick me up and take me in when they had finished doin the pads and disks... Col...
  10. Yeeeukkie.. they look orrible... Don't get them even if they will fit..
  11. Hi peeps, Well, I've always had a good service from Lexus Aberdeen, but, this time they seem pretty disinterested. Maybe cause I have an 8 year old IS200 and not a nice new one. Just done 2.5k miles on holiday in UK and France, and, a few niggles showed up. So after some great advice from Ormi, I booked in my pride and joy to get the calipers checked, wheel bearing noise fixed, new front disks and pads, and a funny humming noise investigated along with the Clutch release bearing replaced. Asked them to fit mintex disks etc, but they wriggled out of it. So settled for Lexus/toyota ones. Said they couldn't hear my humming noise (which is very apparent and starts around 40 MPH!!!), didn't do release bearing as asked in plenty of time, wanted to book the car back in later in the month for the rest of the work, blah dee blah. I'm just a bit pee'd off with the attitude, especially as they new in plenty of time the work required. I do know that they have downsized, and that all sales now go through Lexus Glasgow, so maybe, they are winding down to close completely. Still, no excuse for poor customer focus, especially after all the priase I've given, and money I've spent there.... I feel better now that my rant is over... lol Col :winky:
  12. not being funny take a prius out for a test drive you will supprise yourself and the new one is even better its a 1.8 comes with 17"alloys, head up display, torque from the min you put your foot on the pedal and lots more.its even fast. and the best bit if you press the ev button(the electric only button) you can creep along silently and when people go to cross the road with out looking you can give them a fright with the horn.also in ideal conditions it'll see 72 mpg Absolutely agree, I think they're great cars. Someone told me Toyota made them as a sort of engineering showpiece and that they make little (or no) profit on selling them? Too pricey for my liking though at the moment. Do the latest ones have solar panels on the roof? Or is this an urban myth? All said, still take the Lex in the looks/feel department :) yes they have a solar roof but if you get the solar roof(optional extra) you get the poopy 15" alloy wheels with wheel trims,to be honest the solar roof in this country is a wast of time all its their for is on a hot day you can put your a/c on before you get to your car so its cool for you getting in too(a/c is powered by solar energy). i here you ask why no 17"alloys with the solar roof the solar roof weigh's a lot and so do the 17"alloys and the prius needs to stay on the not too heavy side(the heavyer it is the higher the emmisions)so you can only have one or the other oh and also the prius gets free road tax. also heres one for you the engine on the prius is totally belt free ie no alternator belt,no power steering belt etc no belts at all. (went on a course last month about them)but be warned you touch the wrong wire all that will be left of you is a pair of smoking trainers. and your correct toyota make no money on the prius. Hee Hee.. smokin trainers eh!!! Sounds like it is a bomb just waitin to go off. Just think of all those extra emissions if you get toasted.. lol.. :winky:
  13. Well, being the old fart that I am, and just back from doing 2.5K miles all over UK and France on holiday, I can say I did average around 38-40 mpg. Most driving on motorway or really quiet little French rural roads. I put a K&N filter in and stuck IK 20 plugs in, so, I wonder if my withered foot and the bits mentioned made a difference.. lol.. Col.
  14. woooooo hooooo.. I'm an old man!!!!!! lol
  15. Had a looky at Dastek site Moley.. Looks interesting. How much would you want for it?? Sorry for calling you "moley", but Mr Mole seems a bit formal.. lol Col
  16. Can't see everything in the photy MrMole. Wot does the chip do. Is it a piggyback? wot's the other stuff? Easy to fit yersel? Oh, and how much and what is the spec'??? Col..
  17. Lol... " charger!!", I already been done for speedin in the last few weeks. One of them would get me "the jail!!!". Hee Hee. Col.. :winky: :winky:
  18. Consencus is then that it ain't worth it. £495 for a chip and test for the small return in BHP. I can spend the money on something else nice now. Ta for your help. Col... :winky:
  19. I didn't have the problem with wear, but, I felt the car was a bit unstable at cruising speeds (tramlining etc). Tony Bones (WIM) gave me the settings which I took to an Edinburgh guy who had the full geometry set-up gadget, and, had them done there. All I can say is that it is one of the best things I've done to my Lex'. She handles great now, no tramlining and corners well now on our Scottish country roads. So, if you can (IMHO) go see Tony at WIM, or do what I did with his blessing. Hope this helps. Col.. :winky:
  20. Hi Peeps, a wee (or big) bit of advice if possible. I'm thinking of getting my IS200 chipped. I'm told it gives around 14/15 BHP improvement. I can't get it just re-mapped because the Denso ECU won't allow it (so I'm told). The cost is £495 to have the chip piggy backed and the thing tested fully. 1) Is this a good price? 2) Will it/could it damage the engine and reduce it's lifetime. 3) Will it really improve my power noticiabley? 4) Will it affect mpg?? 5) Overall.. is it really worth it. Ta a lot Col.. :winky:
  21. sorry to be sceptical but the above sounds like a dig at free advertising from the company I think it's great that people are given the option of getting a choice of where to go for work on their Lexus. I had recommended The Wheel Specialist in East Kilbride. If you know somewhere that is good, you've got good experience of them, then I'd be more than pleased to try them out as not many guys/gals on here would point us in the direction of disreputable places. So, for me.. recommend away... Col.. :winky: :) :D
  22. Good Job done Ormi. I really wish I could do these things myself, but, with my dicky hip now, + over the years my tools have been borrowed permanently by friends and relatives (lol), I just can't. So, I have to pay to get them done. Luckily I found a great place that will look after my Lexus now a bit more cheaply than the Lexus dealer. Have a great holiday, and "shokran" for all your help. Col... :winky:
  23. Don't notice on idle Ormi, only when moving??? Is that an indicator that it is the RL bearing. You'll love Egypt, just don't let the local hassle get to you. Col... :) if it was really far gone you would hear the noise on idle.heres a idea phone your local dealer and ask if they do a vsr(vehicle safety report)which is free at my dealer and when you go in say you have a noise that conserns you and they will look at that as part of the vsr(then you could go to a cheaper garage and get it repaired) coz i'd hate to say it was something and it turns out to be something else thats the crap thing about noises you think its one thing and it turns out to be something very different.anyway you can record the noise? I'll try the Lexus dealer as you suggest mate. Don't have anything to record it!! Maybe I'll turn the radio up or get ear plugs.... LOL :winky:
