  1. It seems that some early, ie Mark1, RX300s and Toyota Harriers were only two-wheel drive but that Mark 2s were all four wheel drive. In no instance could it be switched between modes by the driver. The RX400 is of course front-wheel drive but self selects 4-wheel drive when required - the diagram on the dash board shows this in real time. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lexus_RX helps on the point.
  2. Troll? Really? Bit harsh. Not everybody is an expert. And I bet I could drive away an RX without reading the handbook or knowing what the foot brake does exactly. Go a bit easier on people fella! This is classic troll behavior. Go to a new webboard ask an inane question or make such a comment then sit back to await answers and enjoy any warfare they create.
  3. I've only just got the car. The manual doesn't explain too much and I haven't driven it anywhere near a mile. Then how did you drive it even that short distance without finding and then releasing the parking brake?
  4. And it is the place of staff members to exercise judgement in the face of trolls. They are always newcomers and they ask stupid questions: How anyone can buy a car and not realise how either the parking brake works or that it is permanent four wheel drive is beyond me and points to troll at the kindest.
  5. How do you drive away without knowing how the parking brake works - with extreme difficulty....
  6. Sorry I do not buy this line of thought, should anyone who has bought a car been so uncertain as to its attributes?
  7. Not really, you do not buy a car without checking such things.
  8. Another extremely basic question,. I suggest that you read the handbook before driving another inch.
  9. It is extremely worrying that you have bought a car and not familiarised yourself with it before driving off for the first time. Indeed how did you disengage the parking brake to set off in the first place? NB if you do not know the "handbrake" is actually a parking brake and can be operated by a hand lever or with a foot pedal. The Handbook will tell you but to assist you, the left most pedal applies the parking brake on Series 2 and I assume that it is the same on Series 1 cars. This is a very common configuration. You leave the gear selector in 'P' when you park the car. Troll also comes to mind with such a basic query.
  10. To quote your original the Lexus dealer has not said that there is nothing wrong with the car he said "that there is no damage being done to the car and I am in no danger," Subtle difference from being nothing wrong, there are things that you can live with on a car but regrettably the EU has decided that this is not one of them.
  11. You are at far greater risk of someone trying to open the car doors whilst sitting in traffic and then trying to steal from you. Windows break in emergencies.
  12. Does the manual not give the instructions required - seems an odd omission if it does not.
  13. Scrap man - a dealer might take it off your hands as a px for the derisory amount it would appear to be worth in that condition.
  14. Assuming it was purchased from dealer, take it back. He probably retains responsibility if this is an actual fault although it is an old car. hi yes it was but not a lexus dealer he has said ive given you a 3 month warranty not my problem go to them should i speak to my solicitor or not tbh very unhappy with the dealer, plus i px my old car which was a 2008 avensis on the lexus so not a lot of money changed hands where do i stand i did say ill have my old car back but hes since sold it on stumpped really Difficult to follow this with so little punctuation but I think he admits that you have a three month warranty and that you are by Post 1 only two weeks into it. The cash adjustment is not relevant - your first option should be to go to the Trading Standards Department of your local authority. It may well be that you have to get someone else to repair it and then sue in the Small Claims Court.
  15. Assuming it was purchased from dealer, take it back. He probably retains responsibility if this is an actual fault although it is an old car.
  16. I would agree that on this software it does not seem obviously possible.
  17. There is such a facility - bottom of the message you have posted on the right hand side. Click on it and the message can be altered. I am however not sure if it disappears if someone has 'Quoted' your original, it does on some boards.
  18. I think that you have made a mistake with your opening statement! I assume that you do like it from what you go on to write.
  19. Seems a disreputable garage that would try that stunt. Try getting another garage to fit them and then sue the first one - it admits parts are missing so.... Key fobs from Lexus are about £45 - the blade and electronics are transferable assuming she has not trodden on it and destroyed them.
  20. My response was not unhelpful merely not what you wanted. Having been a member here for several years I regret to say that the subject has been done to death but is resurrected by newcomers but no new outcomes are likely. What good would a "only Lexus could solve by fairly radical recall of all the RX400s which have the problem" approach do? The cause is known - the battery is physically too small which constrains its performance. There is no room for a larger one. The problems which occur on a few RX300/350s would occur whatever the size of the battery - those are faults specific to individual cars. The RX400 has its Achilles heel but it remains a good car and one which is difficult to beat
  21. NOT so, reasearch here would be invaluable. ANY car be it a Lexus or a Ford or anythiing else can have defective equipment which causes a drain on the battery. Odd RXs have had this problem. However, the RX400 has its own unique problem - the auxilliary battery is simply too small to stand over about two weeks. the two isseus should not be confused. Your question wll be adequately answered by consideration of the inumerable threads on the subject going back five or more years and no more consideration of a response is needed. Lexus know of the problem, it cannot be cured in the limited space available.
  22. You have clearly not researched the subject on here, threads galore - the petrol versions, RX300/350 are not involved and the issue is resolved on the RX450 so far as appears to be known here. This remains an issue on the RX400, the cause is known - no physical space for a larger battery in the engine compartment. That cannot be cured, some people have used a different Bosch battery as a palliative.
  23. In that case why not take it back to the person/dealer that fitted them. If there was no squeal before than you have cause and effect and now need cure. In theory, at least, you should not be charged although doubtless excuses will be to hand.
